Long Bay Club Head Golf Professional Brandon Mensinger gives an update on the progress of the new greens at the Jack Nicklaus signature design
Brandon Mensinger, Head Golf Professional Long Bay Club:
Well, we're about halfway through our renovation here at Long Bay. We're really excited. We're starting to see some green grass grow, as you see here on the 18th hole. Starting to get nice and smooth, really even. The grow in's gone really well so far. Next week we plan on working on our collars. We're going to do some sod cutting, take out the dead areas that you see kind of around the edges here. We're going to fill that with Tahoma Bermuda sod, and that's going to create a really nice contrast between our greens and our landing areas as we get ready to reopen here.
Greens will be increased from 66,000 square feet where they were before to 110,000 square feet. So it's a 66% increase from what we used to have. It's going to be much more player friendly. You're going to notice these surfaces are really going to open up to most golfers, something that we haven't had in a long time here at Long Bay. Everyone talks about the third hole being about the smallest green on the beach, so we've seen a huge size increase on three. Most people know that that middle pin you pretty much can't go at, and I think we're going to start seeing some people be able to actually go after that pin now.
You can expect a whole new Long Bay when you come out. It's going to be in fantastic shape. From tee to green, even right now, we're looking absolutely gorgeous with having no play on the golf course. The greens are going to be much bigger, much smoother, much nicer. We just can't wait to get it open and have you guys back.
