Women’s Golf Month: 5 Myrtle Beach Courses Women Love

For decades, golf trips were often viewed as the domain of men’s groups, but that’s no longer reality. Women account for 28 percent of all golfers in the United States, and their share of the game continues to grow.

Myrtle Beach has long been one of golf’s most popular destinations, and women find the area appealing for the same reasons men do – beauty, playability and memorable experiences – so in honor of Women’s Golf Month, we’re highlighting five Myrtle Beach-area layouts that consistently earn praise from female golfers.

Pine Lakes Country Club
The addition of two new tee sets gives Pine Lakes six options, allowing players to choose a yardage that matches their game. Combined with its walkability, classic design and central location, “The Granddaddy” offers an enjoyable experience for players of all skill levels. (Pine Lakes Country Club top photo)

Caledonia Golf & Fish Club
No surprise here, as this top-100 public layout is equally popular with both sexes for its beauty and Mike Strantz’s architectural genius. At the heart of Caledonia’s appeal is its Lowcountry beauty and the experience is enhanced by a stately clubhouse that overlooks the famed 18th green and the Waccamaw Neck.

Willbrook Plantation Golf ClubLadies playing Willbrook
Speaking of Lowcountry beauties, Willbrook certainly fits the bill. This Dan Maples design plays through live oak trees draped in Spanish moss and along native marshland, showcasing the best of golf along the South Carolina coast. The red tees play 4,981 yards, perfect for women looking to challenge one of the South Strand’s most memorable courses. (Willbrook pictured right)

West Course at Myrtle Beach National
Everyone likes to make birdies, and the West Course provides the opportunity. The green complexes are mostly open in the front allowing players to run the ball up, and there is little water to be concerned with. This Arnold Palmer design begs players to post a score, a trait every golfer appreciates.

Grande Dunes Resort Course
Home to some of the area’s most generous fairways and stunning views, the Grande Dunes Resort Course is a favorite of women golfers. The five holes that play along the Intracoastal Waterway, highlighted by the par 3 14th, steal the show. Terrazza 19, the course’s clubhouse restaurant, only adds to the experience at one of the area’s best courses.
