Grande Dunes Resort Club
Playing the Resort Club at Grande Dunes for the first time, you will understand why this Roger Rulewich design was named National Golf Course of the Year in 2009 by the National Golf Course Owners Association. The winner of The Sun News Best of the Beach “Best Golf Course” from 2001-2007, the Resort Club has hosted three South Carolina Opens, two John Deere World Championships and will host the prestigious PGA Club Professionals Championship in 2014.
Playing from 122 to 220 yards, the par 3 14th is Grande Dunes’ signature hole that borders the Intracoastal Waterway. With the teeing ground on a high bluff overlooking the wide but narrow green, there is not a more picturesque hole in Myrtle Beach. Many times players get entranced by the surrounding beauty so pars are hard to come by. The par 4 9th hole has equally stunning views of the Intracoastal Waterway and the Grande Dunes Marina. Come play the course PGA Magazine calls “one of the great golf clubs of the world.”

Played up due to cold and wind. We had a wonderful day. The course was in great shape, the staff went out if their way to make sure we had a good day, and the views alone were with the trip. There was only one odd thing, the 2 carts GPS units were as much as 20 yds different at times.

Nice course, starting to show its signs of disrepair especially in traps n cart paths.

I have played this course many times in my travels to Myrtle Beach for golf- this is a constant favorite of mine. I have played it in every weather condition and it is always in great shape. The staff is great, it has a good clubhouse and not overpriced. I also think it’s a visually stunning course to play, including the surrounding homes and marina. Beautiful area. I would highly recommend this to any golfer to play when in the area.

The light right above the main entrance needs to be cleaned. The snack bar area was really small and really loud. There was 2 different grasses growing on the greens, and they didn't roll very smoothly. The GPS on the carts worked well and there was a nice variety of holes.

Thank you Grande Dunes Resort Club for being an awesome place to play! They had numerous big trips going through and yet the pace of play was still good enough to get us finished in daylight! The only negative was super minor to me and that was the greens...they were not rolling true to the top dressing on them which is fine...I understand the need to keep up on the maintenance. We still had a great time there and also shot my low round of our trip there...we will return!!!

Another course we've played years ago everything-- was in good shape very nice day
MattDate Played: 07/31/2019
I played Grande Dunes on 7/31/2019. The people and customer service was terrific. The Greens were awful. They looked as if they had not been cut in a week and rolled like someone raked the bermuda. Having lived and played college golf in Florida, I know what bermuda greens are supposed to look like and roll. I always measure a course by the green conditions first and Grande Dunes has failed. Absolutely not worth the $80 I paid. I should have played The Dunes Club or Caledonia.

I really like this course. The greens were good but I can’t say they were great. Staff was great all around
DavidDate Played: 06/21/2019
Course was great, but we were not made aware that they did split tee times and we were ahead of our time because we were a twosome and we would have been extremely backed up on back nine. We were given a rain-check, but i don't plan on being back in that area any time soon, so i spent $160 for 9 holes or I could have spend my whole vacation day trying to play the back nine
MarkDate Played: 06/20/2019

DavidDate Played: 04/30/2018
Excellent and challenging Rulewich design, but the greens were in terrible condition. Several greens had massive dead areas along with severe bumps. Overheard other golfers saying they were the worst greens they ever played, and we agreed. Staff said they had a bad winter, but in my 40+ years of golfing in the northeast I've never seen greens this bad.

Grand Dunes was a beautiful course with holes to challenge golfers at all levels. Even in the damp conditions the course held up and played very well. Being approached by the course marshal on the 2nd hole about pace with no one behind us was something we had to shrug off. Afterwards we thoroughly enjoyed our round. JohnDate Played: 09/28/2016

AdrianDate Played: 09/26/2016
The course was in very good shape considering the weather rain of the last week. Fairways were 90% dry and the greens were true, if not a little slower than what I normally expect on a course of this status. None the less they did roll true. The design of the course was great, but it would assist players if some of the hazards or water was marked for distance of the tee. Nothing hurts more than your 280 yard straight drive rolling into a hazard that is not visible from the tee that cuts across the fairway. Speed of play however was an issue, we hit off at 8:20 and finished at 1:35. Had to wait on every tee box for 5 - 10 minutes, plus on fairways. The rangers kept telling us they were pushing the slow groups ahead of us. I don't believe them, the group ahead of us was playing the blue tees, that's almost 7200 yards, unless you are a sub 5 handicap or 280 yard plus you shouldn't play this length. They clearly were not that good as playing from the white tee's we constantly hit our tee shots up on them as they hit their 3rd shots. The rangers need to watch a hole of two and then just move them forward to the correct tee for their ability. That is one of their jobs.
JohnDate Played: 09/22/2016

The course was in great shape especially considering the high winds and rain that hit the area the night before and overall we enjoyed the experience. My only complaint is the starter, Barry from Andover, PA. We had roughly a 12:40 tee time and at 12:20 we were headed to the range to hit a few balls and he was already running us down as if he was in some big hurry to get us out on the course. First of all the course was not busy at all, maybe 15-20 cars in the parking lot and then he pairs us up with another couple. We politely asked if we could play just the two of us and he was having no part of that idea whatsoever stating that the course was booked solid for the day. We found that very hard to believe with only a few cars in the parking lot not to mention the fact that we had actually seen the tee sheet already that morning and the day was pretty open. This was one of the main reasons we decided to play there because we knew it wasn't going to be real busy. Despite us telling him this according to Barry the course was booked solid for the day, hard to believe that changed so much from just a couple hours ago when we checked it at 10 am that same morning. On top of pairing us up with another couple making us a foursome this genius sends a twosome off right behind us, what sense does that make?!?!?! He could have sent 3 twosomes out instead which would have created a much more steady pace of play for everyone, hope the group behind us wasn't too tired of waiting, they have Barry to thank for that. Fortunately we play quickly and stayed out of their way. If we decide to go back my only hope is that Barry will not be the starter, hard to enjoy the day when you're already annoyed before even hitting the first tee shot.

When you cross the Grande Dunes bridge, you can look over to see this course. This time when I looked over I noticed the course was brown. Very disappointed. Something is up w/ the water system maybe? Not sure. But, the fairways are in very bad shape. The sand traps are basically not sand traps, they are mud with sand traps. Hoping this course is better by the fall.
DavidDate Played: 06/27/2016
Nice course. Some great views on holes along the waterway. A little disappointed with the greens which had been aeriated, however still worth a visit.

I'm glad to see that Grande Dunes is once again offering complimentary range balls. Good call by management to bring that back. I enjoy the golf course, it is a fun track with some really good holes. The fairways were pretty good. The greens were very good. Tees good as well. Now the downside, this course has the worst bunker conditions that I have ever seen on a golf course. They are really bad. They were bad and yesterday's heavy rain just totally wiped them out. Because everything else is pretty darn good I'll be back but Please Fix Your Sand Traps!
JamieDate Played: 06/25/2016
Grande Dunes was nice, but needed yardage book to understand layout. Received this free at other courses played, but not here. Liked the course overall, but did not like waiting at the turn. First tee time off at 7:30 and finished front nine in great time. Had to wait at turn for 2-3 groups they put off the back (did not like waiting...really slowed us down and killed rhythm for players. Breakfast sandwich was great. Clubhouse was good...bag girl didn't like that I grabbed my bag, but her priority was getting the rest of the carts out versus getting us started. Nice course overall.

Other than the course being excellent condition. The pace of play was slow. Waiting on every tee box and fairway to hit. Also I was a single and they didn't tell the marshals about me to pair me up until very last minute. Which forced me to let the 3 some know that I was playing with them. Who did not appreciate having someone paired up with them. All in all the course was in excellent condition, fairways well maintained. Greens superb and ran true.
AlDate Played: 04/18/2016
Great course. Excellent condition. Probably the quickest greens I have played in the area. Because of the cold weather, there were only about six groups on the whole course, but they bunched us up on the same side, which made it play slower than it should have. But all in all, a good experience.

Did t know scenery and course conditions as high a quality as this existed in the Myrtle Beach area. Easily the best golf experience I've enjoyed in this area. Rivals Pronghorn in Oregon for aesthetics and conditioning . Also, one of the best stocked pro shop I have ever seen. Well done, Grande Dunes!

Played Grande Dunes for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Excellent design with several holes playing high above the Intracoastal Waterway. The course was in very good shape considering a lot of recent rain. G.D. is an excellent value and I highly recommend it. Staff was very attentive and welcoming. I will definitely play it again!!

Beautiful course with interesting holes...Favorite that we played in Myrtle Beach. Back nine is so pretty and the views are wonderful. There are no markers indicating where the next hole is and so is a bit confusing. Otherwise great. They offer a 9 hole replay which we took advantage of and was the perfect amount.
PatriciaDate Played: 10/23/2015
We teed off at 8:45 a.m. The fairways were pretty much unplayable due to the water they put on course via their sprinklers. It was as if they forgot to turn the sprinklers off for 10 hrs. Very difficult to find a spot to hit from. Layout great, staff pleasant but course was unplayable particularly front 9. Have played here a few times but now considering taking off our favorites list. Very displeased with course conditions.
AlbertDate Played: 10/23/2015
What I was most disappointed in our golf experience - the players' tee times were bunched together and we waited on every hole. We had a threesome and expected to play with only our group for an enjoyable round of golf. At the last minute we were told a fourth would be joining us. We should have been asked if we minded having a player added to our group.

MichaelDate Played: 05/27/2015
Dislike the 5 hour round. Had to wait at every tee box and every 2nd/ 3rd shot.
BradDate Played: 05/11/2015
For the price of the course, I would have expected it to be in better condition. Many bare/brown spots, and the greens VERY slow. Everyone in our group had problems with the pace. There were no carts available upon arrival, but an attendant did bring one to me while on the range (which was very nice). I had also called earlier for Wi-Fi access for my wife to use while I played, and while I was informed there was access, upon arrival discovered the Wi-Fi had been discontinued. Also, while having lunch on the patio, the ground crew decided to start fertilizing/weed spray the flowers/plants in front of the patio, and we moved inside to avoid the smell. I needed to shower after the round, and all the pro shop staff had departed for the day, and no towels available. I had to use the paper towels from the bathroom to dry off. During the round, never saw a marshal, and had to wait on most shots for the group in front. It would be a good course for an outing with the wide fairways, and as a first round of a golf trip - provided the attention to detail improves.

PaulDate Played: 03/21/2015
Sorry to see that Grande Dunes continues to cut amenities. When I first started playing this course they gave you a bottle of water and had top rate GPS and gave you complimentary warm up balls. Then they cut out the bottle of water, ok no big deal. Then they cut out the GPS and replaced with a Samsung tablet GPS that repeats the same annoying commercial. But now an $80 round with no warm up balls. Really! I play Barefoot for $75 and get complimentary balls. I play Tidewater for $59 and get warm up balls. Both courses equal to or better than Grande Dunes. Wake up Grande Dunes, don't nickle and dime your customers. I've been a loyal customer but I won't be back if your premium price doesn't include some warm up balls.

This was our second round this winter at Grande Dunes and it's still one of my favorites. The course is in the best shape of all the 14 we have played this winter. No complaints except for the fact that we got one of the afternoon low rates and the course was packed and it took almost 5 hours to play which wears on you. The rangers were out but not much could be done because of the time of day and amount of play. It's my FAVORITE course on the Grand Strand even on a slow day. I will return. Greens were in great shape, friendly staff and altogether a nice time.

TimothyDate Played: 01/23/2015
We played on a 60 degree day and had a great time. This is a favorite of mine after playing it for the first time. The course is a bit forgiving in most places but you can find trouble if your straying. LIGHTNING fast greens, the way it should be on a good course. I had a tough time reading the greens and missed my 4 foot birdie but on the No. 1 handicap hole but that's my mistake. I will return. No flaws at all at this course.

Absolutely was not impressed with being told to hurry up and miss putting on then next few holes. There was no one behind us or in front. As we started with hole 10, by the end of this 9 holes, we were told to miss hole #1, which could be done at the end. When finished, 2 of the 4 golfers agreed to continue to hole #1, BUT were then told that they would have to wait for a group of 12 golfers to tee off. We too paid for a full round of golf .. totally unacceptable and it will not be a chosen golf course again. The original booking was changed from Thursday to Tuesday because of it being busy on Thursday. I do believe that all 4 golfers maintained an average playing time.

Great course. My 12 year old daughter and I played here and found the course very enjoyable and in great shape. Very quick greens, and have seen other reviews talk about pace of play. Did see ranger a few times but we kept up so had no issues, but if you play slow I could see them trying to get you to hustle along.
BrianDate Played: 04/02/2014
Tees, Fairways, & Greens are as good as advertised. Pro Shop offered as much as any other course. Will mark this course off my bucket list, but have no desire to ever return. Absolutely the worst staff I've witnessed since I began playing the game of golf. While my group never complained about the slow play in front of us, we were harassed and pressured by staff to push them. When the pace picked up (group ahead picked up and left) and we could finally relax, our unfriendly ranger informed us how we would have to forfeit 2 holes if we didn't move on (following group hadn't even left the green from the prior hole as we were putting). If you want to be harassed and feel like you've done burn outs on the greens at Augusta, this is the place for you. If you want to have fun and enjoy a round, I'd suggest any of the multiple courses available at Myrtle Beach.

Our group of 20 players played Grande Dunes for the first time in May of 2013 and it was the #1 experience for our annual 1 week golf getaway. The entire day was first rate and our group was welcomed and treated as important customers from the moment we arrived. The course was an absolute treat to play and the conditions were superb. The layout and scenic views made for a memorable day and the staff was eager to set-up an afternoon replay! Grande Dunes is back on our play list for the 2014 big event in April and simply can't wait to repeat the experience.

Staff were helpful and friendly and made our round a most enjoyable one. Back nine was a little tougher with some very picturesque holes along the waterway. We are planning to play again next year on our annual golf trip and would recommend this to anyone looking for a quality course and a tough challenge !

My wife & I played this course today with great expectations. This is a very impressive track that is very eye appealing and great fun to play. The greens were punched 10 days ago, but still ran fairly true. The tee boxes were in great shape, fairways were in great shape. Range balls were provided and the practice facilities are the best I've seen in Myrtle Beach so far. Greens in regulation usually equate to low scores, not on this course, the greens are huge. It is important to be under the hole here putting uphill. If I have any complaints about this course is that it sounds like a freeway running thru the center of the course. Other than that, a great golfing experience. Great reuben sandwich in the clubhouse. Would definately recommend this course.

KevinDate Played: 03/15/2013
Layout was fantastic. Guys in Pro-shop were excellent, waited for us to finish so we could purchase shirts. Fairways seemed thin and spotty. Greens were very good would have been excellent but we played late in the day. Foursome in front of us was slow, we drove up to 17 tee and they were still on the tee no one else on the hole. Did not see a ranger all day on the course. Came a day earlier to see if we could get on, lady in Pro-shop said no full-up, asked if we could practice, she said $20.00. That is okay but it seems she was counting down the register and we were putting her out, kind of a bad taste, if we did not have a tee-time for the next day I don't know if we would have come back. The two guys in the Pro shop the next night made up for it. With that said pracice facilities top notch. I would definately play there again when in town and I would highly recommend Grande Dunes to anyone who asked.
TomDate Played: 03/13/2013

DennisDate Played: 03/13/2013
The is course was OK. Dont know why everyone raves about it. The starter had zero personality and seemed irritated to be working. The round took 5 hrs and 15 mins, we were waiting on just about every shot. There were no rangers to be seen on the course trying to regulate the pace of play. The tees were in good shape, the fairways were quite tight as far as being able to hit fairway woods off them. The greens were fast but at least consistent. Would not even consider playing this course again with so many other courses to play. Would recommend playing many other courses such as Kings North and World Tour and Pawleys Plantation to name a few before Grand Dunes resort.

BrianDate Played: 01/30/2013
I am about a 13-15 handicap and played the white tees (there's 6, count them 6! different tees to pick from). The Resort course has arguably the perfect combination of bunkers, green sizes, fairway widths, water holes, and overall variety. I've played 'tighter' courses, but this one is still no place to spray your drives. If you can keep it in play off the tee, you'll be in great shape the whole day (like always I suppose...). Also, the homes, Intracoastal Waterway, and scenery are really quite amazing. As of 1/30/13, the greens are green (but FAST!), and the fairways are green and very well groomed. The rough is still dormant and they're spraying for weeds on the front nine which will make you have to do cart path on that nine. Otherwise, complimentary range balls, practice green and 2 chipping areas makes this spot a 10 out of 10!
DaveDate Played: 12/10/2012
A beautiful, well maintained course we will play again. Like other courses though, the pin placements were too hard for the speed for amateur golfers. $2.25 for a coffee? Grill prices are too high at all the courses we played.

JamesDate Played: 11/11/2012
We enjoyed the entire Grande Dunes experience. The price of $92.00 per golfer, which was an appreciated discount, is a bit high compared to other courses we played. For example, The Tradition (which in our opinion is a similar high quality course) charged $62.00 per golfer. As much as I would enjoy playing the Grande Dunes again, it is not in our budget at that price. If we do play again, I will try to schedule a mid to late morning tee time, rather than a 12:50 p.m. or later fall tee time, so that we are not rushing to complete all 18 holes.

DavidDate Played: 10/07/2012
Kind of a disappointment. Really didn't like the layout. Not golfer friendly at all. Too much walking. The cart paths were too far from the greens. If you were less than 100 yards out you either have to drive around and walk back or walk up to your ball and back then drive around to putt. There was a lot of nice architecture but it was irrelevant to the game. It felt like it was designed by an architect without input from a golfer. The starter didn't really seem to care to explain the course. He wasn't much help.

I enjoyed the course very much. The starter was very informative, helpful. I look forward to playing the course again, it is a good test, but I felt fair.

We were the last to play on the course. The greenskeepers were digging up the greens as soon as we left. This was for the planned closure and restoration. But all in all, the course was in good condition and it was a pleasure to play. We will surely return in the future.

The greens were the best of the 3 courses we played. Staff was great, Mike was our starter and we enjoyed him. The course is a great challenge of golf but fair. There are no push over holes.

Awesome course and tremendous service experience. A definite must-play course in Myrtle Beach. Beautiful views. Greens were fast and true. There were workers all over the place keeping it manicured. This course had some of the toughest par 5's. Played from black tees and at 7200 yards it is everything you want in a course.

Very good course even though it was very windy and we got rained on late in the round. Everyone was extremely nice. Would definitely play again.

Very interesting course in excellent condition. The greens were exceptional. The course was well designed with a variety of challenging holes. I would highly recommend this course for better golfers.
DavidDate Played: 05/09/2012
There was little that I liked about this course. The most frustrating thing was how they ran their speedy golf. We were the first group off the front at 8:00 a.m. We were a foursome and played the first 9 holes in 1 hour and 55 minutes. There were still groups going off the back 9 when we came through. It took us over 2 and a half hours to play the back 9. There were 4 groups on one hole at one point. When we called to discuss this with someone in the pro shop we were treated rudely. They explained that we were waiting because we played too fast??!!. I have never heard that before. As the first group off, are you not supposed to set the pace for the rest of the day for the golf course. They need to end their tee times in the back at 2 hours after the start so people on the front can work in. I know they will not do this as they cannot then get as many golfers in the course, which means less money. Beyond that I felt the condition of the course, specifically the fairways was poor. You could not tell the difference between the fairway and the rough. The greens were the only good thing about the course. They were in decent shape. I would not recommend this course to anyone.

When we arrived it was very disorganized at the bag drop. They load your bags on to a cart with 8 or 10 more bags depends on how many show up to drop off their clubs. Once loaded up they drive them about a hundred feet then unloaded them. Once we check in it was very disorganized to get our clubs loaded onto our carts. They only loaded one set then went onto other golfers. The starter then came over looking for us to head to the tee box. I told him that we were having difficultly in getting them loaded and he did not help either. The course was great but very frustrating at the bag drop and club load up area.

Very challenging, yet fair. Open fairways, with plenty of hazards. Delighted to birdie #2 and #17, and my wife birdied #1. Never felt rushed - enjoyed the scenery and great golf.

Whatever you do, don't golf here in November. Everything had just been aerated in November and all fairways were soaked. Took almost an hour after our tee time to get sent out.

PaulDate Played: 04/11/2012
Everyone was very friendly from the bag drop on. Enjoyed the course layout, the greens were smooth and had good speed, and would hold a well-played shot. Although I didn't have may best game, the course was very fair while also challenging. The fact that we were paired with another couple who had similar game made the round that much more enjoyable. Staff in the clubhouse, and in particular in the grill, were extremely friendly and accommodating. Our meal after the round was excellent and very reasonably priced. Although we play many courses in the Myrtle Beach area, we will be back.
PaulDate Played: 03/24/2012
One of my favorites in Myrtle Beach. I love the practice area and clubhouse, they are both first-class. The course is both fun and challenging. The course was in great shape, the only disappointment was the greens being slow.

Our list always has Grande Dunes on it. Excellent as soon as you cross the bridge. The Resort course is the more difficult of the two. Play the correct tees that suits your handicap. Course conditions, as always, were excellent, bentgrass greens, range, putting and chipping greens, GPS in carts, free water bottles in cart, etc. etc. The Members course is easier from tee to green with fast sloping greens as its defense. Played both rounds in 4 hrs., had them both to ourselves. You get what you pay for, and based on that Grande Dunes is a steal! Highly recommended.

The practice range and putting greens are nice. I don't think it's quite worth the price charged in comparison with some of the other courses.

Don't like the fact that they use double tees. We had the first tee time and took our time on the front. We made the turn and still had to wait 15 min. to tee off. Then the back took us 2 hrs. 30 min.
ArtMBGolfDate Played: 11/09/2011
Range balls, cart GPS and a bottle of water were provided. Starters used speakers to call groups to the 1 and 10 tees. That helps round up players and provides a feel for how close your tee time is. The cart GPS provides yardage to the pin position of the day, green contours, food ordering, etc. Fairways were good, except for the fairways that were freshly verticut for overseeding as we played. The bent greens are not nearly as good as they have been in the past. Roots are shallow, are slow to recover from aeration, bumpy and have bermuda spots. The greens won't ruin the day, but they are not as good as you would expect for the premium cost. It's time for new greens. I like the choices that the large greens provide and the wide fairways that allow playing position or just letting it rip. When you play the proper tees here, there are 5-6 holes where you can fly it to downslopes in the fairway, to propel you to bonus yards. The best holes are 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, but not just because of the waterway. This is a tour style course with waterway views.

For the money, they need to put more into the course. The fairways, greens, and tee boxes were like concrete, and the rough and landscaping were in poor shape. This high-end course was in the worst condition of all 4 courses we played. Average at best. Wouldn't come back for 1/2 price.

Course was OK, better than most. I was expecting better with all the hype. Good condition and true rolling greens. I do not think the designer used the waterway properly in his layout. You can only see the waterway on the Par 3 14th. The rest of the waterway holes the view is obstructed and you have to go look for the waterway. Don't think I will play it again. Oh, the starter guy gave us this 20-min. speech before we teed off; it started sounding like bla, bla, bla. By the time he finished we were late teeing off, and I had no clue what he said for the first 17 min. of his spew.

One of best par 3s I have seen - it is the one on the waterway and takes all of your skill to get the ball there, with the water the wind and the pin placement. Just a great hole to play. This is one nice course to play if you love the game.

KirkDate Played: 05/02/2010
Played April 27th and April 28th. Conditions on the 27th were extremely windy. Great layout, very forgiving off the tees when played from the right ones. Fairways were firm and fast. Greens were hard but very smooth. Many shots will run through the green and off when not landed in the right place. Greens putt fast and true with many breaks and undulations. Par threes were challenging (especially in the wind). If you have GPS bring one. Highly recommend playing this course.

LarryDate Played: 04/23/2010
Loved the course and people. Would definitely go again. The only negative was that we started off on the back nine and when we came around, we were behind 3 groups which added about 30 minutes to the play on the front nine.

Great course, tough, in top condition. Some of the marshalls need some training in course etiquette. One of our foursomes was harassed for being slow when they had no one behind them. That foursome finished in just over 4 hrs. These are events that keep a group of 28 players from coming back.

Course that plays even longer than the yardage on the scorecard with its elevated greens and the wind off the Intracoastal. The players assistant on 8/27/09 was not very friendly and quite arrogant about the difficulty of the course. Verti-cutting on greens this large makes two-putting impossible!

Commented on January 12, 2009: I played this course a couple of times in the past year. The green complexes are really different in that the areas around the green have the grass cut down. It is better to putt the ball when off the green than to chip it because they are cut so tight. Like Scotland. Different for Myrtle Beach.
