Waffles, Eggs & Birdies: Where Golfers Eat in Myrtle Beach

February is National Hot Breakfast month and it marks the beginning of Myrtle Beach’s Spring golf season. So, given the importance of the day’s first meal, this seems like a good time to take a look at the best places to fill your tank before heading to the golf course.

– At the top of my list is Blueberry’s Grill. With locations in Myrtle and North Myrtle Beach, it’s accessible to many folks in the area on a golf trip, and the Cheezo Rizo skillet, which features home fries, chorizo, spinach, guacamole and cheese, is one of the Grand Strand’s best. Throw in an assortment of benedicts, omelettes and a “healthy corner” and the Blueberry’s Grill menu has a bit of everything. (Blueberry Grill’s French toast below)

– If your group is playing Myrtle Beach National or any other course along the 501 corridor, check out the Toasted Yolk. Offering everything from breakfast apps (please order the churro-style donuts) to the Southwestern Arnold benedict – poached eggs, sausage, onions, jalapenos and queso – Toasted Yolk is relatively new to the area, but it’s here to stay. – Myrtle Beach’s most acclaimed breakfast spot is Johnnie D’s. Food Network said the waffles at Johnnie D’s were the best in South Carolina, and if you’ve ever had the red velvet waffle you immediately understand the honor. From savory to sweet, Johnnie D’s has a waffle for everyone, and a menu full of benedicts and skillets that is equally appealing.

– Breakfast at Eggs Up Grill may not reach the heights of the first three entries on our list, but if you have an early tee time and want a good, quick breakfast, it comes highly recommended. With four area locations ranging from Pawleys Island to North Myrtle, an Eggs Up Grill is always nearby, and you know what you are getting.

– Be honest, sometimes you eat breakfast at 2 a.m. on a golf trip, and if that’s the case, there is only one place to go – Waffle House. The Grand Strand is home to 15 Waffle Houses and it’s okay to admit that this is a guilty pleasure. Sometimes scattered, smothered and covered hashbrowns hit the spot.

If you are looking for a breakfast hot spot on your next golf trip, there is something for everyone in Myrtle Beach.
