From Fast Food to Foodie: Toasted Yolk Raises the Bar for Breakfast in Myrtle Beach

The days of a sausage biscuit and hash browns passing for a quality breakfast are over. Sure, we all occasionally enjoy an early morning fast food stop, but the “most important meal of the day” has undergone an upscale makeover in recent years.

Breakfast has turned into a meal where people seek quality as much as convenience, an evolution that paved the way for one of Myrtle Beach’s newest restaurants, the Toasted Yolk. Located along Highway 501 in Carolina Forest, near Myrtle Beach National, Wild Wing and Legends, the Toasted Yolk has quickly emerged as a favorite of golfers and locals alike.

The Toasted Yolk serves breakfast and lunch, but is it right for your group?

Breakfast Apps
That isn’t a typo. The Yolk offers breakfast appetizers – blueberry donuts, churro style donuts, fried banana peppers and yogurt parfait. While my mouth was watering at the possibility of sliced banana peppers lightly breaded, fried and served with a house made dipping sauce, the majority of my family shares a taste for sweets as opposed to spice.

So, we ordered the donuts “churro style,” and it’s a decision I didn’t regret. Four donuts covered with cinnamon and sugar and served with a warm caramel dipping sauce is a great, even if less than diet-friendly, way to start your day.

The banana peppers continue to call my name, but I’ll be hard pressed not to order those donuts on my next visit.

The Main Course
Omelets, egg specialties, pancakes, benedicts and a host of other “favorites” fill a menu that makes your decision a tough one.

If you are REALLY hungry, the four-egg omelet might be the way to go, but I opted for the “Southwestern Arnold,” which featured two poached eggs on English muffin halves topped with sausage, onion, jalapenos and a queso sauce. The eggs were poached perfectly and the queso was a welcome change from the hollandaise sauce that often accompanies a benedict. It was a winner.

The avocado toast also comes highly recommended. Two avocados top grilled artisan bread and are accompanied by two eggs and Pico de gallo. This version of avocado toast is much more substantial than what you typically receive.

Diners can choose from a couple sides to accompany the meal but let me save you some time – order the hashbrown casserole. Full of cheese and flavor, it’s an outstanding choice.

Bottom Line: My experience with the Toasted Yolk menu is admittedly limited, but a great first impression was made. If you are looking for something to eat, before or after a round at Myrtle Beach National or another nearby course, make the Toasted Yolk a priority.
