Couples Golf Trip: Myrtle Beach Has Is It All

Myrtle Beach has long enjoyed a reputation as golf’s ultimate buddies trip, but the area is an equally appealing (even if underrated) destination for couples that want to enjoy quality time together.

If you and your Boo like to take the clubs on vacation, Myrtle Beach is an ideal locale, combining the variety of golf course options the area is renowned for with abundant good times. Here are three types of the trips that hold a special appeal to couples.

Beauty and the BeachMarshwalk of Murrells Inlet
Coastal scenery is at the heart of Myrtle Beach’s popularity and nearly every couple will enjoy playing the Grand Strand’s prettiest courses, filling photo albums with stunning pictures while testing their games on some of the area’s most famed layouts.

Pawleys Plantation  (top photo), a Jack Nicklaus design, is at the top of our list of courses you will want to play with your better half. The challenge is significant but by the time you are playing the back nine, featuring six holes along a tidal marsh, the property’s beauty will have you discussing the possibility of living along the water.

In the heart of Myrtle Beach, Grande Dunes Resort Club, with five holes along the Intracoastal Waterway, is a must play. The picture you take together on the 14th tee might end up hanging on a wall in your house one day.

A little further north, Tidewater Golf Club, home to nine holes on either Cherry Grove Inlet or the Intracoastal, competes with Pawleys for the title of Myrtle Beach’s prettiest course.

If you and your beau relish those views, make sure you go to dinner along the Marshwalk in Murrells Inlet (pictured right),  happy hour at Anchor Cafe overlooking the Intracoastal, or a meal at Sea Captain’s House, a beach-front restaurant that has delighted golfers for generations.

For the Good Times Couple
If you and your partner want to enjoy golf and Myrtle Beach’s abundant nightlife, a stay in the heart of town is in order. You will have easy access to Myrtlewood Golf Club, home to the Palmetto and PineHills courses.

The Myrtlewood layouts are player friendly and Palmetto, which doesn’t turn at the clubhouse, allows for tee times throughout the day, meaning you can sleep in and play at 10:30 a.m. The 36-hole property delivers a combination of good times and convenience that is hard to beat.

Not to be outdone, Pine Lakes Country Club, Myrtle Beach’s first course, comes highly recommended. The layout is a delight, as is the nearly century-old clubhouse that details the property’s rich history, including the role it played as the birthplace of Sports Illustrated.

After finishing on this trio of courses, the good times of Broadway at the Beach are just minutes away. Home to 22 bars and restaurants, couples can dine, drink and dance the night away.

Nothing But The Best For You Better HalfCaledonia Golf & Fish Club
If you are celebrating a milestone anniversary or you are in search of a luxury trip with your spouse, Myrtle Beach delivers. The Dunes Golf & Beach Club, one of America’s top 100 public courses, offers a view of the Atlantic Ocean and an acclaimed Robert Trent Jones Sr. design.

For couples that enjoy the serenity and Lowcountry beauty of Pawleys Island, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club (pictured right) is a treat. Routed through stunning live oak trees and along the Waccamaw Neck, if ever a golf course could be described as romantic, it’s Caledonia.

No trip that includes Myrtle Beach’s best courses is complete without a round at TPC Myrtle Beach, a Tom Fazio-Lanny Wadkins layout. TPC was designed to test the world’s best players and the strength of your relationship.

A day at King’s North, an Arnold Palmer design, is always a treat as the two of you decide what to do on memorable risk-reward holes like “The Gambler,” the par 5 sixth that features an alternate island fairway.

Throw in accommodations at the Marina Inn or Grande Dunes Marriott and dinner at New York Prime, and a Myrtle Beach golf trip can double as a romantic getaway for golfing couples.
