The newly renovated Avocet Course at Wild Wing Golf Club is welcoming golfers back, and the early feedback is beginning to paint a picture of how the improvements are being received.
Since reopening in September following an extensive renovation, the Larry Nelson and Jeff Brauer design has been attracting attention from both first-time visitors and longtime fans of the Myrtle Beach layout.
From the putting surfaces and redesigned bunkers to improved sightlines and an upgraded clubhouse experience, golfers have plenty to take in when they return to Wild Wing.
And according to Matt Daly, PGA Director of Operations, the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
“Overwhelmingly, the feedback has been phenomenal,” Daly said. “First-time golfers, really are enjoying the property.”
While first-time visitors are discovering Avocet, Daly says the reaction from returning golfers has been particularly rewarding.
“I think the best thing that we’re seeing is people that have been through the course throughout the years, and their reactions of what a great job the renovation is,” Daly said.
He pointed specifically to the quality of the greens, the bunkers and the improved views from the tee boxes as areas drawing praise.
Golfers Notice the Difference
The feedback isn’t limited to course management. Golfers who have recently played Avocet are sharing their own impressions through MyrtleBeachGolfTrips.com, and their comments reinforce what Daly has been hearing.
For Mitch, who hadn’t experienced the course before the renovation, Avocet made an immediate impression.
“Not sure how course was before renovations, but it’s a premium course now. Greens are so good. Fairways are in good shape as well. One of my new favorites at myrtle now.”
Austin, a returning golfer who has long appreciated Avocet’s design, was equally enthusiastic about the improvements.
“I’ve always enjoyed the layout at Wild Wing’s Avocet Course, but the recent renovation has made it much better. Course conditions were excellent. Greens were firm but receptive, and new bunkers are a big improvement, sand is consistent.”
For golfers familiar with the course, that combination of a distinctive layout and improved playing conditions appears to be a major part of Avocet’s renewed appeal.
The renovation preserved the character of the 18-hole design while delivering significant upgrades to the playing surfaces, bunkers and surrounding areas.
More Than Just a Golf Course Renovation
The improvements at Wild Wing extend beyond the fairways and greens.
A renovated clubhouse, updated golf shop, refreshed restaurant area and TrackMan golf simulators have added another dimension to the experience.
Daly believes those additions are helping make Wild Wing a destination where golfers want to spend time even after their rounds are complete.
“New golf shop, new restaurant area. The Trackman simulators are very popular. Great food and beverage menu,” Daly said. “When you finish the round, it’s a great place just to kind of hang out, and the vibe there is good.”
It’s a noticeable change for a property that has long been recognized for its golf course design. The improvements have created an experience that extends well beyond the final putt.
Looking Ahead to Spring 2027
With the fall golf season underway, attention is already turning toward spring 2027, and Wild Wing is finding its way onto more golf trip itineraries.
MyrtleBeachGolfTrips.com has seen increased early interest in spring bookings, including golfers looking to pair the renovated Avocet Course with another recently transformed Myrtle Beach favorite, King’s North at Myrtle Beach National.
Daly believes the combination is an appealing one for visiting golfers.
“You can’t go wrong if you pair those two golf courses together,” he said.
He also believes the renovation has elevated Avocet’s position in the Myrtle Beach market.
“Wild Wing really, with these renovations, has taken a step up from a quality standpoint overall in the market,” Daly said. “I think it’s positioned amongst the best in the market, and really the value is there to play it.”
For Austin, the decision about whether to return has already been made.
“Definitely putting it on our big group’s Myrtle Beach golf trip schedule for spring.”
That’s perhaps the most telling feedback a newly renovated golf course can receive.
Golfers who already enjoyed Avocet are eager to return, while those discovering it for the first time are finding a new favorite.
And with the improvements both on and off the course, Wild Wing Avocet is giving Myrtle Beach golfers plenty of reasons to take another look.
