Longtime Myrtle Beach freelance writer Terry Massey recently offered up his choices for the Grand Strand’s top golf courses for USA Today’s 10Best.com – including two of the renowned Founders Collection designs that have served as major event venues in recent years.
TPC Myrtle Beach (right), the Tom Fazio design in Murrells Inlet, S.C., comes in at number 4 on Massey’s list and remains the only Grand Strand golf course to have earned a 5-star rating in Golf Digest’s “Places to Play.” The host of the 2000 Senior Tour Championship, TPC Myrtle Beach is also home to the Dustin Johnson Golf School; the two entities team up in February 2016 to host the World Junior Golf Championship that aims to “provide participants a PGA Tour-like experience, and the chance to test themselves against premier players from across the globe.”
The Roger Rulewich-designed Grande Dunes Resort Club comes in at number 6 and most recently co-hosted the 2014 PGA Professional National Championship as well as the 2015 Carolinas PGA Section Championship. A strong test from the tips, the Resort Club offers six sets of tees to suit players of all abilities, and showcases multiple holes along the scenic Intracoastal Waterway that provide indelible memories for its visitors.
