Registrations for the 2016 Myrtle Beach World Amateur are now being accepted.
Fifty Grand Strand/Myrtle Beach golf courses. including 20 designs in the award-winning Founders Collection, are poised and ready to host thousands of participants in the 33rd edition of the world’s largest amateur golf tournament, set for Aug 29 through Sept. 2, 2016. Participants from each of the 50 United States as well as more than 30 nations worldwide are expected to increase a field that boasted more than 3,300 players in 2015.
The Myrtle Beach World Amateur features 72 holes of net, stroke play on dozens of area designs, and contestants are placed in flights based on gender, age and handicap. Each participant receives a gift bag at tournament registration, featuring event logoed merchandise including items from the Greg Norman Collection among several items (a total estimated value of $300).
World Amateur participation also includes nightly access to the “World’s Largest 19th Hole” held each night at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center – featuring heavy hors d’oeuvres from several of Myrtle Beach’s top restaurants, open bar with alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages, product and sponsor exhibits, live entertainment and much more. Each entrant is also eligible for more than $25,000 in random drawing prizes.
Competition prizes include a trophy and gift card for the top finishers in each flight, with six flight divisions assigned by handicap index including men 49 & under, senior men 50-59, mid-senior men 60-69, super senior men 70+, women and a new gross division which will compete in a separate championship. Daily low net, long drive, closest-to-the-pin, closest-to-the-line and hole-in-one competitions will also be held.
Approximately 48 players will be included in each flight, with each course hosting two flights per day.
