Barefoot Resort – Love Course
Golf Digest named the Love Course at Barefoot Resort & Golf as one of “The Top 50 Courses of Myrtle Beach” (#1 in 2005) as well as “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses” (#53 in 2007). Golfweek recognized the Love Course in 2012 as “Top 15 Best You Can Play in SC” (#9), and Golf.com honored the Love Course in 2010 as “Top 20 Best Public Golf Courses in South Carolina” (#6).
The signature hole at the Barefoot Love Course is No. 4. This is a reachable par-4 that plays to only 294 yards from the longest tees, and 265 yards from the whites. The green is elevated and well guarded by bunkers on the front, left and right; however, any wayward shots tend to be punished on this hole. Just beyond the green lie the replicated plantation ruins, which are a signature element of the course.

Fun Course. Nice clubhouse and practice facility. Great staff. Very friendly.
Mike
Very nice condition staff was very helpful. Thought there were a few too many holes with s bunker in the middle of the fairway but great facilities and very nice course.
Matt
The Love course might very well be my favorite of the Barefoot courses. This is an amazing and underrated course. Lots of fun and very enjoyable.
Rick
lots of fun to play, friendly staff--we will return again
Bill
Excellent day of Golf
Russ
difficult greens, pituresque.
Chris
Course was in immaculate condition and we played in less than four hours on a busy Saturday.
Terry
Great course
Bryan
10 - Fantastic course & in great shape
William
Played Norman course based on starters recommendation due to slow play on Love course. Great recommendation which speeded our play. We loved the course. One Tee box needed repair for green Tee box
John
In general the course was in very good condition. Tee boxes and fairways beautiful. Some of the greens were in were poor condition although the pin placements on these holes were placed in the best parts of the greens. Attendants were great making sure you had everything you need in and off the course. The course was fun to play with some interesting and visually unique holes. Generous fairways all well marked.
Andrew
great course and staff. i'm looking forward to my next round there.
Pete
Staff was awesome. Course was in nice shape and pace of play was good. Will be back for sure.
Timothy
A beautiful course and a good test of golf. The greens have suffered from all the storms but are still okay. I wish they had rolled the greens after spiking the greens, but with the small spikes it was okay, just a bit let down from previous years. My only complaint was the fact that the clubhouse added a 4th player to our threesome and told me We're booked up solid today. It was not the truth because nobody was behind us for at least 45 minutes. He was just helping someone get out but I saw twosomes playing. If he was truthful, I would not have complained but it was obviously not the truth.
Marshall
Very good.
Bryan
I've played here (and at all of the other Barefoot courses) almost every year over the last 8 years or so...and generally it's amazing. Fantastic course design and layout. Always in great shape...tee boxes, fairways and greens are immaculate. Even the breakfast is awesome, whether it's the buffet or you just eat at the bar or take it with you on the course...so good. My one and only complaint is that they overbook - on Wednesdays in particular because of the reduced greens fees. It was so overbooked, in fact, that the cart staff and starter insisted on pairing our threesome with a single - on one of our carts!! I'm sorry, but I've been playing golf in Myrtle Beach and everywhere else in this country for 35 years and that's just totally unacceptable. I've played hundreds of rounds and this is only the third time that's happened. Either get more carts or stop booking so many people on your course that you have to resort to this absurdity!! A truly less than pleasant aspect to an otherwise fantastic round. Yes, it's a great course - the front 9 is especially fun to play, but be warned -- if you come here on a Wednesday as anything other than a foursome, be prepared to get stuck playing with someone else.
Mike
Normally in great shape. Not now the greens are struggling. They had just sanded the greens heavily. Hopefully in a few weeks better. Left after 9 holes
Mike
Greens were in terrible shape. Sand was put down the morning we played. Left after 9 holes.
Maryann
Good

I have played this course many times and it is usually in very good to excellent condition. That was not the case for the round today. Not all but a lot of the greens are in poor condition. Very disappointing since the greens were replaced a few years back and they were always very nice since the Champion Bermuda was put in. From what I saw today they have some serious green issues for a higher end priced golf course in NMB. I can't recommend the course.
John
Having played the Dye and Fazio courses on previous trips I would rate the Love course right up there with them. Wide landing areas reward good tee shots while the approach shots need to be on target as the greens are protected with bunkers or water or both. The entire course was in magnificent condition and the weather just enhanced the experience. The staff in the pro shop were very welcoming and the clubhouse adds to the aura of the Barefoot experience. The only downside to the day was the starter - he just gave us scorecards and pointed to us as to where to go for the first tee. He wasn't interested in giving us any info and instead was more interested in the large group behind us as he obviously sniffed a higher tip!!! Apart from this we had a very enjoyable day!
Markus
We really looked forward playing the course because of all the positive reviews we read. When arriving there our first impression was that it's a typical resort course since we felt being a little rushed. The course layout is ok but nothing compared to e.g. the Legends courses, Wild Wing Avocet, TPC, Long Bay or Rivers Edge. The fairways were of good quality as well as the tee-boxes. However, the greens were in bad shape with many spots w/o grass. I would recommend to play that course since there's way better ones in the area for a better deal.
Jerry
We stay at the Barefoot condos so it is appropriate that we play one of their courses. Took advantage of the Wednesday discount rate. Disappointed in the conditions this year. A lot of green paint on the fairways. Is this a way to reduce maintenance costs? Will have to reconsider next year if this continues.
Joyce
Thought it would be better.
Bob
Great complex.
Tom
Outstanding.
Jason
Very nice course and very playable. Greens had some work done recently and were very inconsistent in terms of speed. Will try again.
Jack
VERY FAIR COURSE, CONDITION WAS EXCELLENT. GREENS FAST BUT REASONABLE. LOTS OF GOLFERS FOR ALL 3 COURSES CAUSED SOME CONFUSION WITH STARTER. ONCE ON COURSE, MOVED ALONG WITH NO PROBLEM. ONLY 3HRS 50 MINUTES NEEDED TO COMPLETE ROUND.
Jim
Driving range closed, the putting green terrible, personel lackluster
Quint
Love courses that all the holes look different from one another, just a great golf experience, and it helps to shoot 76. :)
Rick
Excellent golf experience. The hole with the old ruins was amazing and the photo op was worth booking the course. Love's design was both challenging and fair and gave you a good opportunity to make some decisions on what sort of shot to hit. I loved the Love. I will be back to Barefoot for the other 3 courses.
Alan
Wednesday special makes cost more affordable for group.
Chris
Great track
Paul
Much more difficult than slope rating. GPS did not work on either cart in our foursome. Needs yardage book.
Luc
Great course. Too bad it was extremely windy.
Bob
One of the nicest courses I've played in my 9 trips to Myrtle Beach.
Sunny
Best of the Barefoot tracks
Jim
We have finished and stayed at Barefoot the last few years with extra night free it allows us to play 27 and go back and shower before we begrudgingly leave until next year. We have played all except DYE, but that will be on the list next year! All course are in immaculate condition and greens are fabulous!! One other comment that should be made, please change the longest tees from silver to some other color, when the sun hits them in morning they and white look just the same!!
Gary
Exceptional
Paul
Average
Keith
Will not play again
John
The course was in decent shape except that they lied about the condition after they had top dressed the greens and when asked lied and I booked the round. I was paired up with 3 other players and we played the tips and under the rules of golf. I would have enjoyed the course more from the middle tees. I didn't like the forced carries but the course is very scenic and the staff did an OK job. I would recommend this course but please check about the greens before you play.
Mark
Great course,wide fairways, firm fastgreens
Art
The new in 2012 champion greens were firm and fast, even after the rain. The course is fairly traditional with some trees, little water, wide fairways and some Pinehurst ##2 style crowned greens. On many holes, you have alternate options off the tee, to play wide or to challenge hazards/bunkers. The wide side plays longer but often provides a better angle to the undulating greens. With the options off the tee, Love is fun to play. There are fake ruins between holes 4 + 6. The main ruins hole (##4) is drivable, but plays longer than it looks. Don't expect to bounce it on, because it is uphill and the fairway slopes to the bunkers.
Paul
The Love course is in great shape. I pick a spot on the tee in front of my ball for alignment, these tees are so good it's sometimes hard to find a spot that is imperfect. Really nice course that is fun to play, One of the best on the Grand Strand. I pay more to play here than I usually pay on the strand but it is well worth it. The course and facility delivers.
Bruce
Great layout and good condition compared to the Fazio course.
James
Can't wait to come back! What a course, recommend it highly!
Dee
Barefoot Landing is always in excellent shape. Fairways and greens were in excellent shape, but the rough was dormant and slick. Stay in the fairway! The bunkers on this course are also strategically placed for your tee shots and are difficult to play out of. Another tough weather day with cold temperatures (mid 40's) and windy (gusts to 30 mph). Hole ##4 has the ruins on it and adds to the experience.
Raymond
Best course we played this trip. Will play it again next year
Leroy
Great experience, good value for the cost. We will return.
Pat
Another premium course with dormant rough and chipping grass. Nice layout but I Would never return in the MB off season. Awesome pace of play...we cruised through.
Glenn
Try and play a Barefoot course each time I visit MB and Love was the choice this year. MY favorite for sure. Very windy day made playing conditions difficult but course was in great shape
Roger
Staff was very professional, we were able to really feel what a country club atmosphere is like. magnificent clubhouse. only bad thing was it appeared that the course was overbooked that day. or the groups were not spaced apart enough.. at times we had 3 groups on every hole. sort of wondered where the ranger was and why he wasnt doing his job.. other than that, really enjoyed the course, the layout, and conditions.
Timothy
We played on 1/30/13 and enjoyed everything about this course, except the 20-30 mph winds that blew that day. The course is in excellent shape tee to green. The staff were very friendly and helpful. This course plays easier than the Fazio but is still a challenging layout. A number of risk reward tee shots on the Love course. I will look forward to playing it again.
William
Greens a little slow, had a great time. $15 replay for 9 holes!
Dee
Tough fair course.
Charles
Excellent.
Chad
Course is awesome! Greens firm and fast! I will play again!
Larry
The new greens were in superb condition with consistent speed and very true roll. Beautiful course. Long par threes. Very nice pro shop.
Neil
I enjoyed the course and the greens really play an important factor in deciding to come back or play somewhere else.
Fred
Good.
Michael
A very nice track ... Will be added to ALL future golf trips to the Grand Strand. Players need to do a better job of fixing ball marks on the greens. My ball nestled into two during my round.
Al
Beautiful course. Loved the ruins with the greens around them.
Rick
It's going to be a long time before I play this course again, but it's just because it's too challenging for me. This is a great course for the above average golfer. I was hitting the ball great all day, and still lost 2 balls per hole.
Geoff
Great condition!!! Greens were hard and fast, much better that the courses in the north. Great experience, but very difficult.
Marvin
Nice layout.
Mike
Stunning course. Barefoot does it right and is in great condition. We found Love to be the best of the big four. Better layout and better greens.
Randy
Course is very playable. Cart path only due to heavy rains the only negative.
Mike
The layout and course design were excellent. Some of the fairways were a bit thin.
Tom
Course was challenging. Course was in great shape.
Bob
Played 11/3 and the course was great! One of the best in Myrtle Beach.
Steve
Not as impressive as normal. We were a little dissatisfied.
John
Always a great course to play!
Patrick
This golf course was as we anticipated, very good. We liked the design of the course. Having to play the course on cart path only due to wet conditions made the game more difficult, as we needed to bring many clubs to the ball. On dry conditions, this course would be fantastic.
Kent
Great complex and course.
William
Great condition for the month of August.
Robert
Have played Love course last year, condition better this year despite drought conditions.
Scott
Absolutely loved the greens, great condition!
Tom
The course was in petty good shape despite the lack of rain for the area. The greens rolled fast and where the ball was aimed. The starter and staff were pleasant and around and checked on our status often. The pro shop staff and grill staff were attentive and helpful.
James
Very hard course; fairways run toward the water, you are penalized for some good shots.
Harvin
Nice.
Gavin
Had one course marshal tell us we were 5 min. behind schedule - the same place we had started, not to mention there was a full hole open behind us.
Mike
Overall good.
Tim
Great time, thank you!
Robert
Class A facility in every respect.
Sean
Course and greens were in great shape. The only complaint was the 30 mph wind gusts that made conditions difficult. Other than that we had a great time as usual!
Fred
Favorite course in MB! Norman course is not here for review so I will say here that it is an embarrassment and we should have been warned about the condition. Where there was grass on the greens it was as long as the fairways!
Gary
Very nice course. Professional staff, courteous. Ranger was terrific in apologizing for a sprinker that was on in error. Greens were good although they had been aerated recently you could tell. Great layout ... thoroughly enjoyed.
Dave
We were warned at the start that the greens had been aerated earlier in the week, but it definitely lessened our playing experience. Worst greens we faced all week. Cost me at least 3 shots off my score. Overall the staff was great but very hasty with us at the start since they were starting for 3 courses, could be better with someone dedicated to our course.
Greg
It was a great course.
Bill/Linda
The Love course was our favorite for the week. It was amazing and in fact, on our return trip we'd like to play all four courses!
Joe
Shot placement made it interesting and challenging.
Darren
Excellent practice range.
Matt
Outstanding course in great shape. One of the best in the area. Everything about Barefoot Resort is top shelf.
Azlan
Course is in great shape. Several challenging holes. Make sure you hold your breath going under the tunnel ...
Paul
Enjoyed the course a lot. Conditions just good since we were in the winter and can't expect perfect conditions.
Judson
Excellent course.
David
We were the only group on the course, they had aerated the week before. They offered us any other course there, class act, we just really wanted to play that one. AWESOME time!
Jim
It was very nice and yes, we would play it again.
Richard
It would have been even better if you could have stopped the rain!
Karen
enjoyed the course very much. Great for anygolfer, high hadicap or low hadicap.
Bruce
Best course I have played; would play again.
Jean
The fairway is not green ...
Tim
We have played Barefoot before & loved it.
Ken
The love course is one of my favorite courses to play in MB, along with the TPC. My favorite aspect is the greens, their contours and condition.
John
Greens were slow but otherwise we liked the course.
Anthony
very nice experience and would come back
Avery
Played Sept. 20, 2008: I replayed the Love course in the afternoon (9/20) and on the cart paths in many locations there was dog poop present. This is very disgusting and the owners of the dogs should take responsibility. I would expect the course to maintain a clean presence for the type of course it is.
Mark
Played Nov. 22, 2008: Fantastic course. One of our favorites anywhere in the world! Excellent layout and condition. Make it a priority to play it if you can.
Stephen
Played March 1, 2008: Nice layout, lady friendly. Will have to play it again when everything is greener.
