After the Round: Why South Coast Beer Project Belongs on Your Myrtle Beach Itinerary

There’s a new player on the scene in Myrtle Beach’s bourgeoning brewery scene.

And South Coast Beer Project – which opened in the spring of 2026 along the north end of Carolina Forest just outside city limits – isn’t toying around.

Merging an indoor, open-layout concept with an expansive outdoor area, the area’s newest restaurant isn’t reinventing the wheel, necessarily. But what it is doing is taking all of the best parts of what any number of crowds might want in a night out and morphing them all into one location.

We’re going to start with the namesake.South Coast Beer project

Brewer Brock Kurtzman created a few gems here. They include an American blonde ale (“Blondes Do It Better”), a West Coast IPA (“All Roads Lead West”), a raspberry wheat (“Summer In The South”), a Hazy IPA (“Pogue Life”), an amber ale (“Amber Lenses”), a mocha white stout (“Queen Anne’s Revenge”) and an American brown ale (“Board Meeting”).

South Coast has also introduced a pair of non-alcoholic brews, the Hop Water and White Peach Hop Water, both made in house for the non-drinkers or designated drivers among its patrons. And if beer isn’t your thing, no worries, as South Coast has a full bar list and a large number of specialty cocktails giving the beer a run for their money.

We struggle, however, to say the drink options are even the headliner, no matter what the owners elected to name this place. The food isn’t leaving much to be desired, either.

South Coast’s oversized two-page menu is jammed with choices for any type of eater. The starters list includes scratch-made Mac & Cheese, smoked gouda in the form of deep-fried triangles and our personal favorite, the brewpub nachos – house-made pub chips topped with multiple cheeses, cherry bomb relish (which packed a hell of a punch), tomatoes and lettuce. We didn’t even add on the optional chicken or steak. But trust us when we tell you this was a meal all its own.

We skipped over the wings and salads, if for no other reason we went straight into one of the pizzas, in this case the Shredder (oh, did we mention all the pizzas are named after Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters?). The remainder of the “small” version of South Coast’s take on the buffalo chicken pizza came home in a to-go box, as this semi-thick crust was as filling as it was tasty.

If pizza isn’t your jam, the eight sandwich options – also with hilariously themed Myrtle Beach names – will likely check the right box for you. The “Embrace the Dad Bod” was nothing less than an insane amount of sliced roast beef making its bun look paltry.

Still not convinced that this place is worthy of your time and money? How about this…

That aforementioned massive back yard (we’re not exactly sure what else to call it), is a playground for old and young alike. There are oversized Guess Who? and Connect Four games. Cornhole. Ping Pong. A large fire pit (you might want to wait until fall for that bad boy). And a giant 20-foot television that we happened to watch a World Cup game on. It’s all tied together with a boat load of seating, some covered and some not so much, picnic-style tables and a large number of Adirondack chairs.

Put it all – the beer, the food, the fun – into one package, and South Coast is flexing during its infancy.
