2014 National Retired Military Golf Classic Features New Myrtle Beach Golf Courses

Pine Lakes Country Club and Myrtlewood PineHills Join Lineup for 31st Annual Tournament; Registration Open for 31st Annual Tournament

Registration is open for the 31st annual National Retired Military Golf Classic, May 27-31 in Myrtle Beach.

More than 800 retired members of the military are expected to compete over four days on four National Golf Management golf courses – Pine Lakes Country Club, Myrtlewood Golf Club’s PineHills course and Myrtle Beach National’s SouthCreek and West courses. Pine Lakes and PineHills are new to the rotation.

Men and women will compete on teams made up of four players of different playing skill according to handicaps.  Men play four rounds; women play three. Entry fee is $295 for men and $250 for women and includes golf and cart fees; awards; prizes and special drawings; golf shirt, hat or visor; admission to an “Icebreaker” party; and the choice of a meal gift certificate or a ticket to Alabama Theatre.

Pine Lakes, the Myrtle Beach area’s first golf course and home to the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame, and PineHills are new to the playing rotation. For the first time, players 70 and over, regardless of handicap, can play the forward tees.

“Playing a course like Pine Lakes is kind of special for us,” said tournament director Terry Brown, a retired Army colonel.  “The new rule for the forward tees will open it up considerably for the older golfers and make it more fun for them.”

Abraham J. Turner, a retired Army major general and a South Carolina native, is the new tournament chairman.

“We’re always thrilled to host the men and women who serve this country,” said Robin Pringle, director of golf sales for Oceana Resorts. “We’re so excited to have Maj. Gen. Turner as our tournament director. He brings a lot of excitement to the tournament – it’s incredible.”

Prizes include gift certificates, golf vacations for two and $10,000 for a hole-in-one. There will be closest-to-the-pin contests every day, mulligans and special drawings.

Special tournament rates are available at Oceana Resorts properties – Bay Watch Resort, Anderson Ocean Club & Spa, Atlantic Breeze Ocean Resort, Best Western Plus Carolinian Oceanfront Inn & Suites and Patricia Grand Resort.
