Winding through the luscious landscape of tall pines, Wild Wing Plantation is every golfer’s paradise. Designed as a signature course by the team of Jeff Brauer and Larry Nelson, the Avocet presents creative contouring, elevated tees and greens, double fairways, grass bunkers and even a double green serving 2 holes. The Avocet was recognized by Golf Digest as among “1994 Top 10 Best New Courses in America,” as well as being consistently rated a 4-star recipient since 1996 in its “Places to Play” guide. Golfweek has ranked Avocet at Wild Wing as #6 in South Carolina in their 1995 “America's Best Golf Courses” listing.
Number 14 on Wild Wing’s Avocet course is considered by most as its signature hole. From its elevated teeing ground, this hole gives players the option to be aggressive and try to drive the green, or lay up in one of its two fairways. With water on the right, deep trees on the left, and a hog’s-back green, No. 14 provides everyone with a challenge. A close second to this hole would be the double green shared by Holes #6 and #17. With multiple pin locations on each hole, this double green will provide everyone with lots to talk about after the round.
nice layout, fair, fun,
The course played a little longer than expected.
The course was is outstanding shape.
Ir was the third time we play the course. It was good shape but the year before it was better. Great service from the Staff.
Course had a great layout and a lot of fun interesting holes and shots. Greens weren't great but not bad either. Just expected them to be better.
I like the raised mounds and ponds. The fairways were excellent.
Lots of hills and undulations on the sides of a gorgeously maintained fairway.Beautiful Course. No Homes on the course, very serene.
The experience was good. I’d play the course again
Really like everything, course conditions have improved in recent years
The course was challenging but in great shape. The staff is friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this course. Unfortunately the service in the bar/grille was too slow and we left after waiting just to get a menu.
Very challenging course. It was still in great shape even after all the rain we had earlier in the week. I would definitely play here again.
I always enjoy playing here, very challenging
Nice mix of water hazards.
Great challenging course. Each hole was unique!
Always been in great condition.
We were discussing whether or not to play this course. We were amazed on how great the course was. This is in the top 3 courses of 8 courses we played
(Liked the course) condition
Course was in good condition given the recent rains. Pace of play was very slow due to a large group of disabled golfers in front of our group. Our round was 5:30 minutes.
The course was in great shape. The bag staff was MIA. We had to get a cart and load our own clubs.
Great conditions always make for a good experience
Played Avocet as part of family reunion. The six of us had a great time! Course is in great shape, beverage cart service was phenomenal, staff in pro shop was great. The pub was very nice with good food and COLD beer on a 100 degree day. Will definitely return and highly recommend this course. Probably the one thing that could improve are the cart path conditions.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. The pro shop is HUGE and has a ton of great stuff. Not too mention the course was in phenomenal shape, some of the best Bermuda grass greens I have played on. Definitely a place to visit!
I would have liked to know that I could not get my money back when one person in my 3 some was injured and could not make the tee time. I had to pay anyway. The pro shop attendant stated that I could get a VOUCHER for that missing person but NO money back....how about that for business? I payed for a product that I did not receive. I promise I will never recommend Ambassador to anyone. I golf around the country and have not encountered this treatment before. Very disappointed with this experience. The golf course was exceptional though.
The golf course was great the rest of the experience was very poor. No cart girl no players club no way to get drinks on 100+ heat index only water on course was by number 7 hole by that time we were over heated.
Very nice layout, heavy rain the night before but course was still nice. A must play. Will visit again in the fall.
Course was wet, but played great. greens were a little slow after aerifying and rain. My son and I had a great time.
Course was in excellent shape. Best greens of 8 courses played.
Very nice course. It had some interesting holes. Challenging but fair.
Overall excellent course. Cart paths really showing there age though. Staff and clubhouse made it a very enjoyable experience.
Loved the greens! Everyone was very accomodating.
Awesome course. Awesome condition!!!
Course was very wet due to rainy conditions last couple days and we got rained out but Pro Shop gave us full rain check.
Pro Shop and guys at bag drop were very nice and helpful, as was the starter and the ranger. Golf course is decent but really needs much work! Cart paths on the back 9 are horrendous! No restrooms on back 9? Really!?
Nice course but horrible pace of play. Starting on the 3rd hole, when spacing between tee times became moot, we waited several minutes on EVERY shot. When we got to (literally) every tee, group ahead was either still waiting to hit or were just teeing off. That is with marshals coming around quite often. We had a lightning delay on 12 where marshal held up play, but irrespective of that, it was a 5 1/2 hour round (lightning delay extended it to over 6 hours). Unacceptable!!!
Greens and fairways and tees all were in great shape. Pace was good and friendly people. Thanks for great day.
Great course and layout was amazing. My first Myrtle Beach experience was amazing.
Wild Wing should be on everyone's must-play list when in the Myrtle Beach area. Excellent playing conditions friendly staff and many different tee location to suit all levels of players.
Course is in great shape. Staff was courteous and friendly. Beverage cart service was the best we had in 4 days of golf. We saw Katie more times in one round than the others put together. Avocet definitely a course we will play every visit to MB.
This is always a regular stop for my group every year. The course is consistently in great shape and the staff is very friendly. We love how there is no homes out on the course, it is very scenic. I recommend the Avocet course at Wild Wing to anyone heading to Myrtle Beach. Also, this year they informed me that they have started happy hour in the pub everyday at 4pm. We got off the course and enjoyed some cheap drafts and a very good cheeseburger!
Course is in great shape!
Absolutely loved the course. The greens and fairways were in superb conditions and the course have a fantastic layout. It plays long but rewards good shots. The pro shop and outside staff were very helpful and friendly. I will definitely be back.
I played here the last day of my trip to Myrtle Beach and I was delightfully pleased to have saved the best for last. The course was in immaculate shape and significantly better than the other courses I had played. The staff was helpful and courteous, as well as very friendly. Will definitely make this a permanent stop on future trips.
Course was in better condition than any other course I've played in Myrtle Beach. Fairways prime and green, the greens rolling true and quick. Staff was very courteous and professional.
Course was in great shape, staff was very professional. Would absolutely come back again!
Great course, great staff.
Nice course and in terrific Conditions. A little long from the senior tees at 6000 yards. It had not rained in a week and they were cart paths only. They came up with some lame excuse that they had sprayed the course, not once in 18 holes did I find anything on my golf ball. There is a hundred course in Myrtle Beach area you don't have to play a course that has no considerations for customers. Why not notify people that they are going to be CPO so they can make their own decision. Staff in club house had an attitude that we asked why CPO, made us feel like we were other in them. More or less said we could go play somewhere else if we wanted. We have 16 golfers that play e times a week and will not return to Wild Wing.
I played this course reluctantly after reading some reviews and seeing a rating somewhere below 8. While I haven't played all the courses on the Grand Strand, I have played 29 of the top rated courses. I can't tell you how impressed I was with this course. The greens were immaculate, rolled perfectly. Couldn't ask for more with the grooming to the fairways and rough. The staff was courteous, professional and prompt. The layout was interesting and fun. This course is on my top five list. We were riding on fairways soon after considerable rain. Don't pass it up. We didn't eat at the grill.
Drove 250 miles for cart path only on some really wide fairways. Will be a question for course chosen in the future. Overseeding does not help ball to sit up.
The course was in superior condition, the greens were FAST but true.
Tees and fairways were in great shape but greens had been sanded.
