Meredith: Hey everyone, I’m here with The Salty Golfer, and we’re at Long Bay Club getting ready to play three of their signature holes. This is a really special course because it’s a Jack Nicklaus design. After he won the Masters in 1986, he visited this property, saw the potential, and created the course we know today.
What’s interesting is that Nicklaus wasn’t always a fan of tree-lined fairways, but he decided he could make it work here — and he absolutely did. Today, we’re playing holes 10, 17, and 18. I’m excited because Jack’s courses are always a challenge.
Salty: Yeah, for sure. Challenge accepted, Jack!
Meredith: This is such a beautiful hole — it has that links-style feel to it.
Salty: I thought you said “winky feel.”
Meredith: (laughs) No, links!
[Music and laughter]
Salty: Nice shot! That should be good, even if it rolls off the fairway a bit.
Meredith: Straight and smooth — that’ll roll forever.
Salty: Do you have a rangefinder today?
Meredith: I didn’t bring mine. Want me to guess? I’d say… 106 yards.
Salty: I love that — not 105, but 106. Let’s go with it.
[Music]
Meredith: Great shot, Salty! That might be the best one I’ve seen you hit.
Salty: Thanks!
Meredith: We started early this morning, no range balls, and still got off to a good start. Not bad for a Jack Nicklaus course!
Salty: Agreed. Let’s make this putt.
Meredith: Oh, baby — we are such players!
Salty: No mulligans either!
Meredith: Nope — proud of us.
Salty: I started The Salty Golfer back in 2019. I was working in the medical field, but when COVID hit, a lot of things changed. My wife and I had a side business called Old North State Clothing Company, but I sold it and kept the Instagram page.
One night my wife said, “You love the ocean and golf — why not combine them?” So I renamed the page The Salty Golfer, made 400 stickers, and sold out in 48 hours. From there, it just grew — apparel drops, collaborations, and eventually becoming an ambassador for Myrtle Beach golf.
Meredith: That’s amazing. You’ve turned passion into purpose, and it’s easy to see why people connect with you.
Meredith: All right, we’re still at Long Bay Club, a Jack Nicklaus Design course. If you’ve ever played a Nicklaus layout, comment below — tell us where and what you loved about it!

Salty: Nice shot — a little draw, but that’ll work.
Meredith: Middle of the green — I’ll take it!
Salty: These bunkers can be intimidating, but you handled that perfectly.
Meredith: Long Bay really captures Nicklaus’ signature design style — big bunkers, bold greens, and a mix of risk and reward. It’s fair but challenging, and absolutely worth the drive from Myrtle Beach.
Salty: Couldn’t agree more. Long Bay, thanks for having us — it’s been a blast!
