Do you struggle with your takeaway? Well, the takeaway is one of the most important golf fundamentals. It's the first movement in the golf swing. And if you stay on plane during the takeaway, your takeaway is solid, you have a 70% chance of staying on plane throughout the swing, and that is huge. So, if you struggle with inconsistency, I'm going to show you two easy steps to get you on plane and to have a solid takeaway. I'm Meredith Kirk, LPGA Class A teaching pro. So, let's go.
Let's start with the first step. I want you to go ahead and set up to the ball and get nice and square. Now, when it comes to the first movement, you want to make sure that your shoulders, your arms, and hands all move in one piece. So, as you can see here, I have a triangle with my lead and my trail arm. I want to maintain the triangle at least 8 to 12 in behind the ball, moving directly behind the ball. So, I want to make sure that I keep the club head nice and low to the ground. All I'm doing is I'm taking it straight back. So, watch how everything moves in one piece. Notice that I still have the triangle. You know, I'm not breaking it like this. You know, I'm not bending up. My arms are nice and straight in this triangle, taking the club straight back. So, that is that one piece takeaway. You may have heard that before, a one piece takeaway. That's what you want for the takeaway. Everything moving in one piece. Now, the second step is just as important. When you set up to the ball, you always want to make sure that the club face is nice and square. Often times, as an instructor, I see students set up to the ball and they open the face or sometimes they close the face and and delofting the club head like that. Well, that's going to cause issues in your swing. It's one, you're going to get off plane. You're gonna have shots that move to the left, to the right. You're not going to have the straight shot, and that's what we want. So again, step one, when you get set up, everything's going to be nice and square. You're going to be aligned to your target. You're going to take the club back in one piece, just like that. Again, if you do this, you are going to have a 70% chance of staying on plane. So, let's stay on plane. Let's get it right at the takeaway. So, if this golf tip on takeaway helped you, subscribe below and be on the lookout for more tips.
