Do you want to learn how to hit an explosive golf shot? I'm Meredith Kirk, LPGA Class A Teaching Professional, and today I'm going to show you a little technique that you can use on the downswing that's going to make your shots explode.
So there's a couple steps that you need to take to create an explosive golf shot. What I want you to do is I want you to kind of stand tall and I want you to rotate as far as you can to the right and left. Try to get to 90 degrees if you can. So if you watch me right here, I'm going to turn, rotate. It's going to feel a little bit like a stretch. Then you're going to go to the other side. You're going to do this about five times. Try to feel how far that you can actually rotate.
I don't wanna see you get hurt, but like I said, if you can get to 90 degrees, that would be awesome. So I'm gonna go to the other side here now. So step two, I'm gonna do the same thing, but this time I'm actually gonna get into the address position here. I'm gonna let my arms kind of hang. Now I'm going to make the same rotation as if I was hitting a golf shot. So I'm swinging back here. As you can tell, I'm getting to about 90 degrees, and then I'm gonna swing through on the other side. And again, you wanna do this about five times.
really focusing not so much on the stretch because you're naturally going to stretch, but it's the feeling of rotation. Now the third step, we're getting ready to get into the explosive part of the golf swing here. So you're gonna grab a club, get in the address position, and what I want you to do is go ahead and feel that rotation with the club as you take it to the top. So you're gonna take it to the top here. Now, here's the move. This is what's important here. I want you to.
do a little baby squat and swing through. Then I want you to do that about five times. So you're gonna get to the top, hold it, squat, swing through. Then you're gonna start to move a little bit quicker to where you're not pausing at the top. You're just getting to the top, taking a little baby squat and swinging through.
As you can see, I'm getting that little squat in, coming through. Now, why the little squat? Well, you have to remember that power comes ground up in the golf swing. So we want our feet pressing into the ground. That's how you're gonna create an explosive shot. Oftentimes, when I'm working with students and they don't know how to really compress the ball, they don't know how to generate power, they're not creating that little baby squat.
at the top of the swing as they're coming down. So this is really gonna help with sequencing on your downswing to create the explosion. This is amazing and I want you to try this drill before you go out and practice on the range. You're gonna see a huge difference on the contact, your distance and power. So here I go, I'm gonna go ahead and set up to a ball now. And I'm gonna swing nice and slow, add that little mini squat on the downswing and you're gonna see some power.
just like that. And you might start getting a little bit of a divot too. So if you're more of a picker and you want to create a little bit more of a divot, the little squat is going to help you. So that is key to creating an explosive golf shot. Are these golf tips helping you? We want to hear from you, so comment below.
