When the Grande Dunes Resort Course opened 25 years ago, it wasn’t just another new course on the Grand Strand – it was the cornerstone of one of the most ambitious development projects in Myrtle Beach history.
The Grande Dunes vision ultimately grew to include Marina Inn – the area’s first 4-Diamond property – upscale real estate, a full-service marina, and a Marriott resort, among other amenities. It was an unprecedented initiative, and a quarter century later, it’s one that has more than fulfilled its promise.
At the heart of it all remains the Roger Rulewich–designed Resort Course. Now owned by Founders Group International, Grande Dunes has matured into one of Myrtle Beach’s best and most popular layouts and it stands apart from other facets of the development.
As group leaders plan their next Myrtle Beach golf trip, here’s why Grande Dunes Resort Course remains an ideal anchor course for their next vacation:
A Round Your Group Will Never Forget
Grande Dunes was ranked as Myrtle Beach’s third-best course by the area’s PGA professionals in 2025, and the reasons for the layout’s lofty standing are many.
But somewhere near the top of the list is Grande Dunes’ memorability. The course has five holes that play along the Intracoastal Waterway, highlighted by the stunning par-3 14th hole (pictured right). The layout’s final one-shotter plays from an elevated tee box to a green along the waterway. It’s a beautiful hole and it’s hardly alone.
Your group won’t forget a round here.
Greens Worth Planning Your Approach Around
Scenery alone doesn’t make a great golf course, and Grande Dunes delivers well beyond the views.
A 2022 renovation restored the greens to their original size and specifications, and they now roll as true as any on the Grand Strand. Large, undulating putting surfaces reward precise approach play and a creative short game, particularly on the par-4 third and fifth holes.
Local tip: pay close attention to pin placement and prioritize being on the correct tier. A two-putt is far from assured if you hit the green in the wrong spot.
Playability Without Losing Challenge
With six sets of tees ranging from 5,353 to 7,578 yards, Grande Dunes can challenge players of any skill level. But it’s also exceptionally playable.
The fairways are among the widest in the area, making the course friendly for mid- to high-handicappers while still demanding strategic decisions from better players. Lost balls are limited and everyone in your group should find a tee that fits their game.
The Full Grande Dunes Experience
As part of the 2022 renovation, the Grande Dunes clubhouse was completely overhauled. A more open floor plan, the opening of Terrazza 19, and an outdoor patio have significantly improved the Grande Dunes experience. The food is good and it’s matched by the setting, so your day at this top-100 caliber course should extend beyond the 18th green.
We’re Talking About Practice
If you need to fine-tune any part of your game – before or after a round – Grande Dunes is a must. With a large range, chipping area, practice bunkers, and an immaculate putting green, Grande Dunes is home to Myrtle Beach’s nicest practice facility. Take advantage of it.
