Meredith: We are at the beautiful Grande Dunes Resort Club and joining me is head golf professional, Dustin Powers. Dustin, thanks for having us out today.
Dustin: Welcome. Glad to have you out.
Meredith: Well, tell us a little bit about the most popular golf course here in Myrtle Beach.
Dustin: It is a Roger Rulewich's design, brand new resort club, centrally located in Myrtle Beach. It doesn't get much more central than this. Location is fantastic, right on the Inter-Coastal Waterway. More of a links style than a parkland style traditional golf course, which is nice. A lot of elevation here. Six different sets of tees, so it's fun for any golfer of any skill level.
Meredith: Yeah. I love the clubhouse here. I mean, this is just beautiful.
Dustin: Yeah, like a Mediterranean look.
Meredith: Yes. I love it. Then you have a great practice facility as well.
Dustin: Practice, as you can see, someone behind us, one short game that's over here, and another one over our shoulder. Full driving range, full performance center, putting greens, so if you want to work on your game in Myrtle Beach, this is the place to be.
Meredith: Oh, absolutely, so Dale Kitola, PGA, is out here and he does club fitting.
Dustin: Club fitting.
Meredith: And he's also a teacher here.
Dustin: Yeah, he's our director of instruction.
Meredith: Yeah. He is amazing, so another reason to come on out to Grand Dunes Resort Club. Let's talk a little bit about some of the signature holes here.
Dustin: Okay. 14's probably the one that stands out in most people's minds, it's a elevated tee shot, so you're hitting down into a green, parallel to the Inter-coastal Waterway, over some water and some natural areas, so it's really beautiful. It's probably the most talked about hole we have on the property.
Meredith: Absolutely, I love that hole. It's actually one of my favorites.
Meredith: And then also number nine is beautiful as well.
Dustin: Number nine. Challenging par four, can be long depending upon which set of tees you play. Usually, you can get it over the hill that's in the fairway, and then you have an elevated second shot back up to a green. Ten runs along the Inter-Coastal Waterway, 15 runs along the Inter-Coastal Waterway, so we use the natural landscape out here, or Roger did when he designed the course, and it's just fantastic.
Meredith: Yeah, and one thing I love about it is you have some elevation factors here at the course.
Meredith: So it presents a little bit more of a challenge, and it makes it a little bit unique in comparison to other Myrtle Beach golf courses.
Dustin: Yeah, most courses are relatively flat here at the beach based on our location that we reside in. But I like to say that we have mountain golf in Myrtle Beach.
Meredith: Yeah. That's a good way-
Dustin: Not mountain golf, but we have more undulation than most.
Meredith: Right, yeah, I love it. And you also have a lot of popular events that come here to Grand Dunes resort club.
Dustin: Yeah, pretty high championship pedigree that we've had, we've had a lot of major sectional events for the PGA. We actually hosted the National Professional Championship, so a huge national event there. So we do quite a few events.
Meredith: Yeah. Well, so many reasons why you need to come out and visit us at Grand Dunes Resort Club. If someone likes to, if they want to book here, where can they go, to the website?
Dustin: Yeah, it's granddunesgolf.com
Meredith: Okay. And also, you can always go to myrtlebeachgolftrips.com and you can customize your next Myrtle Beach golf vacation. You gotta add the most popular golf course on it, Grand Dunes Resort Club, and also there's a few other courses around this course that would be fun as well to add to that itinerary. Maybe Pine Lakes in Myrtle Wood, right down the road. So we hope that you will join us here next time you're visiting Myrtle Beach, for your next round of golf here at Grand Dunes Resort Club.
