Big Changes, More Options: First Look At Pawleys Plantation’s Par Five 4th Hole

Troy Vincent, ASGCA from Nicklaus Design, gives a first look at the changes coming to the par five 4th hole at Pawleys Plantation Golf Club

Troy Vincent:
Before, it originally had a huge waste bunker on the left side, a formal bunker that was maintained, and it was a very narrow area, especially for the second shot. So what we were able to do was expand that fairway more, and we’ve taken that bunker and it’s actually going to be what we call a sand native area. We’ve softened up the bunker. There’s a good transition from the fairway down, and then that bunker will have sand in it as well as some native plant plantings. And then what you’re also going to know is we’ve expanded the approach out in front of the green.

So again, it’s more about options. There is a bunker in the approach on the right that we have not started working on, but that will kick out into the fairway a little bit more. So then for your second shot, if you don’t want to take on the large greenside bunker, you can bail more to the left and take the green on at a little bit of an angle. But again, it’s giving you more options.
