This spring marks the 40th anniversary celebration of Arcadian Shores Golf Club, which opened in 1974 as the maiden solo design of world-renowned golf course architect Rees Jones.  The 6,800-yard, par-72 layout has been a favorite of local and vacationing golfers alike, located almost directly at the midpoint of the 70-mile Grand Strand that spans parts of the North and South Carolina coasts and contains nearly 100 golf courses.

“What’s fascinating about Arcadian Shores is that my footprint is still here,” said Jones, remarking on the course’s intact routing in an age when so man golf courses are compromised by new construction around them, in a recent visit to the course. “When I got the opportunity to do Arcadian Shores … it was a really exciting prospect for me.”

Two holes—the par-3 second (pictured, above) and the par-4 13th—have received particular acclaim since the course opened, typified by their presence in the Myrtle Beach’s Sun News’ “Dream 18” feature, which listed the top 18 holes on Myrtle Beach area golf courses.

In order to ensure that the course’s next 40 years bring as much prosperity as the first, a Jones-approved program of renovations and cosmetic improvements has been underway at Arcadian Shores in recent months. This has centered on the recent removal of some 300 trees, which has restored the playing corridors of the holes to original widths while enhancing both playability for all and the health of the turf.

“Arcadian Shores is considered by many to be one of the finest premier golf layouts in Myrtle Beach,” said Jason Mitchell, Arcadian Shores’ head golf professional. “The recent tree removal has improved the putting surfaces as well as the turf conditions throughout the course.”

Arcadian Shores is one of 22 Prime Times Signature Courses that can be played on the Prime Times Rewards Package – which features a $100 rewards card for each golfer booked on this highly popular special. These and other courses can be booked by visiting our tee time specials page.
