Brand New Look: Changes to Pawleys Plantation’s 7th Hole

Check out the new look of the par three 7th at Pawleys Plantation Golf Club.

Troy Vincent ASGCA, Nicklaus Design:

It’s a par three. We’ve increased the tee sizes, so we’re going to have some more distance, varying in distance. But as you know, with a par three, the tees typically get beat up pretty good, and so we felt it important to increase our tee sizes on it.

And also, where we’re actually standing right now, which is the back right of the green, this area actually was further to my right, was green, but there have always been issues in this quadrant because of shade. So what we’ve done is actually expanded this green more on the left. We still have a bunker on the left. And something I’m proud of is, really, there was no approach on this hole, so at least we have some fairway that we’re going to have out in the front.

So, you’re going to see the tees expanded. You’re going to see the green bigger. There won’t be a formal waste area, I will be what we’ll calling a native area. It will have sand in it, and we’ll have some native grasses planted in it.

But it really breaks up this hole, and I think when people come here and play, it actually works in and out of the tees. So it’s very interesting and adds a little bells and whistles to a hole I think that it had lost it previously.
