Wizard Golf Club
One of three creative designs of the Mystical Golf Group, The Wizard has recently earned an overall rating of 8.5 from reviewers at the Myrtle Beach Golf Insider, garnering praise for a pleasant management staff, beautiful design, and great experience.
Course designer Dan Maples brought a whole different experience to Myrtle Beach by bringing a feel of Mountain Golf with drastic undulations throughout the course. Recognized by Golf Digest as “4 stars,” it’s one of the three Mystical Group courses that also includes The Witch and Man O’ War that is said to be a “must-play” for all golfers.

Daniel
Very good
Jeff
Decent course, lots of water!
Steve
My son and I very much enjoyed our round at the Wizard. Nice condition, layout and staff
John
Loved the course. Other than the sanding on the greens thought it was in great shape. Was a little disappointed in how the cart girls conducted themselves. They didnt understand that they should not be driving/talking when players were addressing a ball or in the middle of a swing.
Mark
Nice course. Good conditions. Tough in spots. Overall a great value.
Randy
Despite the early morning fog turned out to be a beautiful day and a great course. All the staff were friendly and a pleasure to deal with. Will definitely book again.
Walt
One of our favorite courses that we play every year we are in Myrtle Beach. We particularly like the challenge and layout of 17 and 18.
Randall
Loved this course great layout. Was a beautiful course visually.
Joseph
A very nice course with plenty of shots to think about.
Paul
Enjoyed the course, but play was a little slow. Staff was very good!
Steven
Great practice area. Challenging layout. Good Condition, great considering the rain recently.
Gary
Fun course, good shape. Only problem was fairways were pretty soggy.
Michael
Always enjoy. Different style.
Scott
great course, great conditions, loved the layout
Jim
great condition; good lunch
Craig
Starter was exceptional. Course was fair and very interesting to play. A real switch from other MB courses, very much a links style with enough water to make for a great round.
Dennis
Nice course, open and very windy. Liked the last couple of finishing holes with water in play.
Tom
Have played here many times over the years, was surprised to see the poor course conditions. Attitude of pro shop staff did not help with their lack of concern for our group. Doubt I will ever chance playing here in the future as their are plenty of good choices in MB!
Russell
While the course overall was in good condition, several holes were littered with goose droppings to the point of making them almost unplayable.
Harry
Layout of the course was fine and interesting. The greens were not fun to putt. They had been plugged and not much sand over the top to fill the holes. Lots of Seagulls on the last hole. Informing a guest about the greens before play would be nice with an adjustment in the fee to make it a worth playing. I would think twice before I played it again. The management was friendly and helpful.

Wizard is a feel good course. It's wide open and easy to score. The staff was excellent, including the friendly cat at the drop spot. Very few people there because it was a cool morning. It's quite damp in areas but all the courses are damp with all the rain we've had. The tees and greens are in good condition and the fairways are cut well. Tip toe through the seagulls and droppings on the 18th but it's a good challenge. Enjoyed the day and will return.
Jim
The track is just great -- Greens are true and in great shape.. Fairways are beautiful . Love the 17th hole par three.. challenging, trust the yardage ! Just a real nice layout .. Thanks for being there..

We come 2 Myrtle twice a year; Wizard is a must every time course always in good shape. Greens are always consistent staff is friendly.
Tim
Very slow play. Had to wait on every shot. Never saw a ranger.
Ted
Tee Boxes, Fairways are in excellent shape. There were a couple of greens that were not great but very playable. The rough is up so it's easy to lose a errant shot in the rough. The starter brought us out cold wet towels on the course due to the extreme heat. *** VERY NICE TOUCH ***
Brandon
Course was in good shape. Staff was friendly. Greens rolled true, not fast but not slow either.
Brandon
Course in good shape. Great staff. Green were not fast but also not slow. I would recommend playing here.
James
Wow!! What a great course. It was in great shape. Had paid more to play inferior courses. I look forward to the next time I'm in MB.
Robert
The whole experience was wonderful
Kristin
The Wizard is a fun course, and was in great condition especially being in January. The first hole is a good starter hole with a dog leg to the right around water but you can plenty of room to work the ball. Fairways most part wide and the ball would run out well playing in the winter. The club house is one-of-a-kind with its castle design.
Doyle
Nice layout with some interesting holes at the beginning and end.
Don
One less tee time in the morning. Too slow with the double tees. Had to wait 30+ mins at the turn.
Scott
There were lots of pock marks on the green which made putting difficult around the hole, and tee boxes could've been a little better groomed. But hospitality was great and the free lunch sandwich/2 drinks is a great deal.
David
Played on May 1, and the course was in great shape. Greens, fairways, and tees were just about perfect. Good layout - you face some choices on a few holes. Good course for women as well. Everyone on the staff was very friendly. Give it a try - you wont be disappointed.

Very nice course in great condition. Starter was very friendly and we got a free lunch with our round 2 hot dogs and 2 beers. Only complaint was pace it wasn't the course's fault but the group 2 ahead of us kept taking like 10 minutes to search for their tee shots, made for a 5 hour round and on a day when it was 90 degrees it made for a long day.
Ronald
Played The Wizard on July 20th. Course was in great shape, but more importantly the staff was awesome. The golf pro Stephen Haines went far and beyond his duties in making our group of 32 comfortable. The Witch had a flood problem and Randy/Stephen managed to get our group back on Man O War. Hats off to Man O War and The Wizard. Ron J/ Par Players Golf Club
Robert
Starter and course management staff were the best
Hall
The course was in great shape and had no arguments about the condition outside of the poor weather we had. The service was horrible which was a shame b/c I really enjoyed this golf course.
Gene
Greens not really growing made some putting adventurous; on the other hand, the fairways were lush. Love the Wizard's layout.
Dave
Very wet due to all our rain but fun course with some very interesting holes. Staff were good except for pro shop reception.
Timothy
We played on 2/14/13 and the course was soaked from rain two days before so it was cart path only on every hole. The greens have just been spiked and was not fun at all. The sand was not swept out very good so it made for tough putting. The staff was very pleasant but the play was slow with a guy in front of us fishing on the last few holes instead of playing golf after he dunked his balls in the water. That backed up the course for the last 45 minutes. The Wizard in general is a wide open feel good course that plays easy.
G
Had so much fun on this course, beautiful design of the course my group will be back in 2013.
Alan
Our group of 24 loved this golf course and everything about it including the friendliness of the personnel. I, the only person who had any contact with the person behind the counter in the pro-shop rated it fairly low, because he was totally occupied with business and failed to welcome me and our group or to have any real comments. The shop itself was very nice and well stocked.
Ronald
Thought it was a great course...a little wet the day we played, but still nice.
Joyce
It was a fun day for me. As an older woman and play only for fun, I am not qualified to rate a golf course.
Michael
This was my first round at the Wizard Course, having played approximately 60-65 of the courses over the past 20+ years of going to Myrtle Beach. We were pleasantly surprised at the interesting layout and the value of the round was outstanding. $37 for the round including lunch and 2 drinks ... awesome! The only warning is that you will lose balls even if you are slightly off the fairway due to the depth of the rough and the natural grass areas. The first hole and numbers 17 and 18 are the most interesting holes to play on the course. I would definitely play the course again.
Raymond
Greens had a lot of scars from ball marks. Fairways were extremely wet, which was not their fault, but they were being cut during the round which left significant clumps of grass all over.
Norman
Friendly staff.
Peter
Good.
Ken
Staff was great, clubhouse wasn't as well air conditioned as pro shop so a bit of a balmy drink afterwards.
Bob
They all did a great job.
Craig
Course was in great shape. Greens were receptive, plush and rolled true. Pro shop and grill were fine too.
Timothy
All staff very accommodating. The course was in great condition. I took my son on his 15th birthday and it was a wonderful experience.
Ken
Nice layout but conditions were fair due to the saturation of the fairways and also the aeration of the fairways and greens. Staff was excellent and got us out early. Pace of play was great (finished round in a little over 3 hours). Favorite hole was #17. Lunch deal was good. One suggestion would be to renovate the outside of the clubhouse to look like a real castle.
William
Enjoyed.
Gregory
I had a bad day. Great course, I just had a bad day. Stay out of the rough ... because once you are in it, you are really in it.
Dennis
Great pro shop.
Jerry
Best experience ever when dealing with a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Go Ravens!! hahaha
Ian
Wide open fairways, greens were challenging, clubhouse was really cool, beautiful surroundings.
Mark
Great place ... We have played this course 5 years in a row and will go back next year. The staff is awesome and they gave us a free lunch with our round. That was an added bonus for sure!
Robert
I found the course to be in good shape. The greens were slow, but that's understandable considering the hot, semi-drought conditions. The course offered several risk/reward type holes that made it interesting. Thoroughly enjoyable experience and definitely would play again.
Steve
We played right after a torrential rain. It was amazing how quickly the course dried out. We could even still drive in the fairways. Course itself was in good shape and was very forgiving. The staff was excellent, constantly asking us how we were doing and hoping we were having a good day.
Joe
Good course, wide open fairways and flat greens that were in pretty good shape. The last 2 holes are like being on a different course, very difficult but very scenic.
Jack
This is the greenest grass I've seen out there since I moved down here 3 years ago. Excellent shape, greens rolling true. The adjustment to pot bunkers is a nice touch. Just hope the zoysia grass around the edges of them works out. Overall an excellent golf course to play right now.
Joseph
We had rain that day and the course was very wet but aside from that condition the balance of the course was excellent.
John
The course has a fantastic design and is in great condition. The staff was friendly and accommodating.
John
The weather was awful and some of our group of 20 only played 9 holes but we were treated better here than anywhere else we played. We were given a free lunch and rain checks good till whenever! The course was soaked but in great condition otherwise, we will return due to the super service and hospitality.
Joseph
Like the island green and the layout of the course.
Matt
Again, started on hole 10 and it played very slow.
Timothy
Course is wide open and plays easy but be advised that the greens here and at Man O' War have been spiked and sanded. In Ireland you get reduced rates when the course is being worked but not in Myrtle. Staff was very nice and play was quick.
Jean
Course in good shape for this time of year. Greens a bit bumpy and slow, cart path only. But the worst was the very slow pace, 5 hours to play the round !!!
Suchada
This course is in great condition in spite of the heavy rain the night before. It is beautiful and playable. The greens are in excellent condition. We would definitely come back to play again.
Marc
We selected this golf course based on a personal recommendation, along with the feedback left by other golfers on the website. Although the course was in great shape and played well for a low handicapper and my high handicap friend, we were appalled by the lack of consideration and golf etiquette demonstrated by the ground staff. We were paired with another group. At one point, two of us were on a green and the other two were hitting their approach shots when a member of the ground staff drove right up to the green and proceeded to water it while we waited to play. On a number of other occasions, ground staff would not stop mowing or fertilizing while we were preparing to hit. After our round, I went into the pro shop to voice my displeasure and the clerk behind the counter could not care less about my concern. Nor did the pro, who was sitting at his desk. He heard me make my complaint, looked out his office window to see what was going on, then went right back to what he was doing. Needless to say, at $65 per person to play for this type of hospitality, we will not be coming back to play during our annual trip to the beach. I will also make sure any golfer I run into that makes a trip to the beach is aware of the service they can expect at this course.
Steve
If you are looking for a links-style course to play while in Myrtle Beach, The Wizard is one to consider. However, you would do well to have an understanding of the difference between a regular American-style course and a Scottish links-style course before you tee off. For instance, roughs are higher and rougher and much more difficult to get a ball out of. I've always liked The Wizard, which I had played a number of times in years past. If you watched the British Open from Turnbury, Scotland, you can readily see that this course is a pretty good reproduction of that sort of links course. I was a little disappointed, however, by a couple of things, starting with the reasonably surly guy at the bag drop who responded with only a grunt to a $5 tip and could hardly be considered very welcoming. Also, the fairways had way too much in the way of brown, dried grass clippings lying about, giving the course a somewhat less than primo manicured look. Still, all an all, the course was challenging and fun to play, as always.
Brad
If you golf in January do not miss out on a great layout that is enjoyable and demanding and was in great shape from tee to green. My group all gave great reviews and will make a return trip to this layout. Starters did a great job for our large group and we had a blast.
Ronnie
Service was sub par didn't have great interaction with the people but once on the course it was amazing great setting and great playability the roughs were the only bad part and they weren't that bad overall great experience on course but the service in the pro shop seemed lacking
