Colonial Charters is great if are missing the patching greens of your local muni. The cart path’s condition and markings were reminiscent of the Cross Bronx Expressway. The lack of beverage cart and postage stamp size greens only added to its charm.Staff Response
I had not played this course since it was in total disarray in 2009 when bankruptcy hit the housing market. At that time, the course was a mess. I played today and was surprised. The course is in pretty good shape. Greens are fine, fairways over seeded for the winter, and the sand traps actually had sand. Par 71 course with 5 par 3's. Back nine is tough, and as an earlier comment stated. There are some narrow fairways on about 1/3 of the holes that are going to make you be a good shot maker.
Let me begin by writing that I enjoyed the layout as it is a shot maker course and care to provide an objective assessment but I would never play it again! Narrow, water but fair if you stay off the driver and opt for a more précis club. It's a good old boys club so player beware...booked as a twosome and the good old boy foursome in front never waived us trough (starter error or cater-ism?)the entire 18 holes (we were second of the tees...yes behind the foursome that the starter all knew by name). They also double tees so you may share what we got, being a very, very LONG round.
Played this course before. It had another name at that time. It has improved since the then.
Nice layout for a golf course. They probably need to put some more into the fairways and greens.
On vacation from Maine. Course was in good shape. The layout seems a little chopped up. Had to drive the cart along way to the back 9. Staff was friendly.
I'm a local and played here 2 years ago. It was not good. It has improved alot. Greens rolled good. A few fairways could use some work. I will be back to play.
Never heard much good about this course, but I was pleasantly surprised, a nice course, with friendly local staff and customers. Only comment is the yardages on the par 3's seemed way longer than they really were.
Played three courses while on vacation. Course was better than Crown Park but not as good as River Hills. All in all not a bad course. The lady in the snack bar was nice.
Not a bad little course. I did shoot my best round of the day.
The course was in poor condition. Poor greens and half the fairways were not up to quality conditions. Played it on a recommendation. Bad choice. Spent a little more money and go somewhere else.
Good course to shoot well on, not too hard.
Course was in good shape aside from the greens. Many of the greens had bad spots on them. Even in that condition this is a nice little course to play your just into town warm up for the week round.
It was a fun course, small greens, I missed allot of them.
Good course for the price
Last time I played here it was called Palmetto Greens and it was not in good shape. Finally went back to play and it was 100 times better shape. Not a hard course but it was fun to play.
Great warm up course for the price. Short but lurking trouble...fairways lacks grass even at this time of the year. Get ready to play crowned / domed greens.
Nice course for the price.
Short course with lurking trouble. Many greens are domed/crowned, lack of fairway grass on many holes. Great warm-up course for the price...
My wife and I are down from Canada for a week and have played here twice. We thought that course was in great shape compared to the other course around.
Had the best round of the golf trip. Will come back again.
Was a good course for the price. The staff was nice and helpful.
Nice course, good price.
The staff was very friendly.
Course was in good shape, a little wet but every course we played this week was wet.
I played Colonial Charters a few years back. It has improved allot since then. Course was in good shape.
Course was a little wet but that was expected with all the rain. We had a good time. I'm a beginner and it was a good course for me.
Good layout and good price.
Very nice, enjoyed the course.
Way better than I thought it would be.
Enjoyed the course, it had some tough holes but still fun to play. I will be back the next time I'm in town.
Fun course. It has enough of a challenge for a mid level golfer like me without being too tough.
It has a laid-back atmosphere. The layout will test your accuracy with narrow, fairways and a variety of water hazards and sand traps. I think we encountered water on nearly every hole, two of them with greenside waterfalls.
