LPGA Teaching Professional Meredith Kirk joins The Salty Golfer for a Captain’s Choice on the back nine at the newly renovated King’s North at Myrtle Beach National. Long considered one of Myrtle Beach’s most iconic layouts, King’s North has been elevated with recent updates. Greens have been expanded back to their original size, bunkering has been reimagined, and the layout now leans even more into its signature risk-reward style. The result is a course that challenges your decision-making as much as your execution—while still delivering a fun, memorable round from start to finish.

All right, here we go. Part two. We're four under getting ready to hit the back nine at Kings North. Man, the front was really challenging. I was kind of struggling a little bit at the end. Yeah. Let's Let's try to match what we did on the front. I heard that the back's a little bit tougher. So, uh let's bring it today and see what happens. Let's do it. All right. All right. I'm in.
I think we're okay. Yeah. Low five. We got a gallery. Yeah, we do. It's a gallery. Yep. About 20 of them. I've never had I've never played in front of this many people before.
Curl. Curl. Let's go. We got sprinkles. We got some sprinkles. Sprinkle it. Sprinkle it. I think that's in the water. Yeah. swimming. Yeah. Goal is to break par. Yeah, we we did it. It truly has become you've become trigger it into salty. It's like I can't go back to Wes. That's what a lot of my old girlfriends say. I just I can't go back to Wes.
Gosh, good start. Good start. You play that well, especially with all those bunkers on the left. some no mulligans today, baby. That was strong start. That That was a strong start. All right, let's let's let's go low today. We're going to go low. Yeah, we need to go low. Hold 10. Meredith's teeing off. Get a little bit of a head start here where she's at. So, um hopefully she can pipe one way down there.
Piped down the left side. Should be fine. Big forward bounce. Yeah, good shot. It was straight. I'll take it. We like straight. Straight is good. All right. 178 par five.
Wesley.
It was just a little left. Not too bad. A little more left than I wanted. We We can play that. All right. Pick me up.
Stay right there. I've still got that. I have I mean a little left. Not quite as left, but that's fine. That's fine. Good ball. We can play with that one. We're just kind of We got a little extra draw going on here. A little extra left. All right. I got an eagle chip here. All right. I'm just going to do a little just a bump and run. Yep. With my wedge. Get it up there tight.
Get up there. A little slower than I thought. Yeah, that's all right.
That's it. That's it. That's it. That's it. Bite. Bite. That was aggressive. Aggressive line. I'll tell you what though. I didn't think it was going to I know. It didn't really spin like I thought it was going to. Let's putt yours.
Oh, yeah. Let's go. Birdie. Birdie. The first one. That's really good. My putting has just not been great lately. So, that's a good little It's good little go boost. Let's go. One under through one. Sprinkles, baby. You can't birdie all of them unless you birdy the first one. Number 11. 390 par four. We are off to a banger of a start. Miss Meredith with the natural birdie on 10.
Destroyed it. That was a freaking bomb. Yeah, that was good. Salty. We'll take that. I don't even know if I need to tee off with that. Yes, you do cuz you get you're 40 yards ahead of me. That was really good. Thank you. That felt good. Oh
yeah, that's going to work. Yeah, it's going to work, I think. But I mean, compared You hit yours pretty far. I mean, we're going to be pretty close. Be all right, though. Yeah, good ball. Good. Yeah, I'll I'll totally take that. But I mean, Salty hit a a really good shot, and I was only 40 yards ahead of him.
That's going to work. Another green. Stop now. Look, it's going to go down. Come on. Oh, we'll take that for sure. Got away with that one. Yes. Got away with it. No. See, you got that little turn, that little draw on it. Little draw. That's all right. We'll make that putt. We'll make a putt. Yeah. Hey, I mean, we're both on the green, but yours yours is definitely in a better position for us. Let's see if we can uh go make another putt. Yeah, that' be awesome. I love that. Love that for us. Look at us. These greens look really good, don't they? They really do. I mean, they look great. It's uh if you're down here right now on a golf trip, then this is the place to be, man. The the courses are starting to pop.
No break. Whose gut did you go with? I went with your gut. Salty, the last minute I I I was looking down. You know what it was? I was looking down the line. I was like, "What if he's right?" You swear. And that thing did not, Salty. It didn't even break. Yeah, that's probably a bad read. Yeah, bad read on my part.
That's That was almost straight in. It's almost a straight in shot. Yeah, that's I'm sorry. Don't ever ask me to uh read your putts. Did you see these new flags? Yeah, I love the new logo. And it's just the Kings North logo, right? It's not it's it's not everywhere on the property. It's just this this course.
Nice. Good finish. Got a par. Sorry about the bad read, Meredith. It's my fault. All right. Look at all this water. You know what? I'm I'm getting the vibe, you know, TPC saw grass right here. just finished up. Yeah. Mhm. A lot more bunkering on this this hole though than they changed something about the bunkers here, right? On this hole. Is this the hole that used to have the SC in it? Yes. Yeah. This is the hole that used to have the S in the C. Yeah. And if you just noticed, a plane was flying over us a minute ago. And if you're coming in on that flight, sometimes you can see the SC. But now they're like it's all divided up and there's like multiple bunkers. I mean, honestly, I really don't prefer it. You like the SC? I like the SC. I think it's cool. Like an from an aerial view to see that, you know? I don't know why they did that. It's unnecessary. Why?
Man, I'm hitting everything left and I hate it.
All right, we need you here. I know. I know. Just be a player, Meredith. I know. Be a player. You're LPGA professional. I know. All right, I'm going to step it up here. Focused.
Come on. Sit. Sit. Ah. Yeah. Too much club. Crushed it. I I actually thought I had the right until it hit. It was very flighted. Well, I like that shot. I like the shot, too. You're right. It's just I had too much club. My gap would have stopped it more. Two putt here. I will be happy with a two putt right here. Yeah, this is a beast putt. Like, it's not a good putt. Look at that mound going downhill. Like, there's there's a couple of's turtle turtle shells as we get to the hole. Yeah, that's exactly what they are. Turtle shells.
Oh my gosh. Hill, we're in trouble, people. On the left side, it's going to Everything's going to move left to right. So, once you get over the hill, you can't play it too much right. This is like the hardest putt I've had in a very long time. Yeah. Settle, settle, settle. Oh, man. Look. See how it went more right? You Okay, Salty. I'm telling you, this is See that little white? It's almost straight. See that little white mark up there like on the grass? It's You almost have to play it straight. I'm telling you, if you if you hit this shot right, it is going to go right.
Yes. Yes. Come on. Turn. Turn. Oh man, that was That was better.
Oh my gosh. Was that not brutal? Like, how do you even putt that? You don't. You hit it closer from the tea box. Truth. All right. Hole number 12 is no joke. Okay. This is Well, two poor two poor T- shots.
See you. See you later. See you.
Nice. Nice. Come on down, baby. Come on down, baby. Yes.
Sprinkle it, baby. Yes. Let's go, Salty. Yes. How about that? Gosh, I'm feeling it. So good. I've never been so happy for a par in my life. I mean, that was that was really hard work. Lesson learned. Hit it closer on your T-OT.
Perfect. Perfect. Yeah, that should be really good. Yeah, should be really good. So, this is like a little dog leg left here. Yeah, it's not that long of a hole. So, if you can I just think you kind of take it right at the corner of the bunker, the far corner. I got you. Well, with the way I'm drawing it, I think I could do it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And I go right straight and right.
That's okay. I mean, I'm I'm in good shape. You're in good shape. We're fine. We're fine. We're fine. Okay. We got We have some bunker action. Of course, there's a lot of bunker action at on North.
Spin.
I think that's deep. I think it's deep.
Oh, sugar.
Sits off. It might be all right. Yeah, we can put I think we'll be all right with that. We're putting. We're putting. We like to putt. They've been tough today. I feel like if I can if I can get it up to this point right here. Yeah. Is that what you see? I like it.
Do you see that? Yeah. It goes hard left, huh?
That was better. Much better. Look at that. If you had more speed on that, that would have been All right. Why don't you finish this? Finish this out. Look at this flag. This one's yellow. I like all the different colors.
Okay. Good job. Good job. We are on a par train. Yeah, we got to get off the PAR train. You know what it is? I will say this though, we're we're four holes into the back nine and I think the back nine is significantly harder than the front. Oh, okay. Salty 100%. These greens are beyond challenging like Well, they're hard and firm and fast, and we like that. Yes, do like that. But it's it's it's hurting us right now. It's hurting us for sure. If you're coming to play here, get ready for the hard firm greens. So, you're going to want to take less club into the hole cuz it's not going to spin. It's going to roll out. Yeah. So, you don't have to take it all the way to the flag,
man. I mean, Salty, your drives are really good today. Yeah, they very happy with the driver today. Yeah, driver is definitely your friend. Look at Look at all the waste bunker, though. I mean, there's just so much out here. It's really cool. Well, I I just I I'm a big fan of fair of waste bunkers you can drive in. I think that is really cool. It's a nice It is cool aesthetic.
Yeah, Meredith. Good ball. Little cut there. Little cut. Little cut ski. Little cut. I like it. All right. So before the renovations where my ball ended up, we'd have been in trouble because just up the road here, there's a little there was a a tree and we'd have been blocked out by the hole. But uh they've cleared that out, made the fairway a little bit wider and a little bit nicer of a landing zone here. So um we got a shot except Meredith hit it further than me. So um we're going to go play her ball. Oh man. Where's my right to left there? It's It was a pretty shot, but yeah, pretty crappy shot. It's pretty though. Just to the right, though.
I'll be good. Sit right there. Yes. All right, we can live with that. It's a little off the right there. Yeah, I kind of followed I followed your path a little bit, but a little bit more left, which was good. All right, man. Had that been though, that would have been that have your little draw on it, man. That would have been a perfect shot just about 10 yards the other way. Oh, Lord have mercy. Holy moly. We don't want to turn this into a bogey. So, let's don't get like super aggressive and try to like bring it up off the hill and down into the hole. Yeah. Let's just Let's play smart. Seriously, hole number 12 was the hardest putt I've had in a long time on the par three. This right here matches it. If you come down. All right, camera guy. All right, here you go, Tom. Go get the angle of this. Look at this. Look at the angle of that. They're not playing on Kings North. If I could just if I can get it to here. Yeah. I just I just maybe hopefully it hits the flag stick cuz it's going to come off that hump with a lot of pace. This is Wow. Settle. Settle. That's not bad. It's just It's just fast. You The higher you go up, the faster it's going to be. Yeah.
Oh man, we got the grind here, Meredith. Yeah.
Nice. All right. So, that was something else. Yeah. There's So, they redid 30,000 square ft, right? Yeah. I wonder how much of the original undulation or do they add more or bring more back? Because there's been a lot of undulation Mhm. on every hole we've played on the back. It's fun. It is very challenging. That That was a hard putt. Yeah. I would actually say out of all the courses in Myrtle Beach right now, I think the most challenging greens, this is the hands down the hardest. So, what I really like about a challenging golf course is when you have to know on what side of the green you need to be on in context to where the hole is. Are you are you got you're putting three play in play, right? There you go. Yeah. See, that's that is what you just said is so important. You actually actually you have to think like a real player like more like an elite player of this is one of the places that when you get done playing you'll be like I want another shot at that place. Yeah. Because don't you want I want to go play number 12 again. Yeah. Like it just Exactly. Yeah. I want it kind of Yeah. I want another shot. Yeah. So there is the challenge of it can be a little addicting of I got to go beat Kings North. Whatever your score is. Yeah. Good luck. Yeah. All right. Par five. Let's do it. Let's go get an eagle. I hope you guys are enjoying part two of Salty and I on Kings North. We are having a blast out here. Don't forget to comment below, like, subscribe, and follow us. We're getting ready to tee off. Salty's been bombing his tribes. So, I already know it's going to be good. Like, we have this one in the bag with just with this drive. I knew I knew when you were saying that. Okay. Well, except for that shot. I was like, she's jinxing me as we as we speak. All right. Well, now the pressure's on you cuz I just I barely scored the run from third there on that one. Gosh. Sorry. Not Not your fault. Got you. No, I just I didn't perform one in the fairway.
She Okay, I bombed that one. She did. She bombed that one, she says. All right, let's go. Let's do it. We're taking that one. We're taking that one. Well, we're not going to take mine, that's for sure.
Oh, man. All right. Not a great shot. I got I got us. All right. I got us.
All right, we're down there a little left. So, we're in the sand. Yep. Well, maybe not. Let's just go see. Okay, look where we're at. One of the thousands of bunkers here at Kings North. All right, Meredith, we're hitting three. This is a very interesting lie. I mean, you just made it over this bunker and we're in between. I'm okay with being over the bunker. Yeah, this is a cool shot right here. I mean, this really challenges our short game skills right here. You got this. Well said.
Nice. Right up there. Okay. I don't know if I can do any better than that. Good job. Awesome. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Crushed it. Crushed it. Yeah. All right. Yeah. Too firm.
Oh my gosh. Sugar.
I don't I played it way too I mean I don't think you give the hole up, Meredith. Do I? I don't think you play it outside the hole. I think it's right in here.
Let's go. All right. Good putt. Let's do it. Let's go. Okay, that's two under on this side. I just We haven't had our best today. We're working hard. I mean, we are working hard overtime on Kings North.
Oh man. Four. He said four. Sugar. What does sugar What does sugar mean? It keeps me from saying, "Oh, what does sugar mean? That's easy." That actually is really funny. Yeah. And I hit it right just like you. Just All right. Well, we got to play through this. We're going to We're going to go hit our We're We're in other the other fairway. It's fine. It happens. But the good news is we're in the fairway. Just the wrong one. All right. Not as bad as we thought. We are in play. Thanks to Meredith.
That looks good, Salty. Nice and smooth. That looks really good. All right, we're on the green. Not the best of bounces, but we'll take it. Finally, a decent iron shot.
Now, I turned it over a little bit. A little bit.
We'll take your ball. All right. All right. Two putt. We could probably glad I'm glad you got us on the green.
All right.
All right. Good aggressive putt.
Whoa. Ring around the Rosie. You got it, though. All right. That was a good par. That was a good scrambling par. Yeah, that was little trouble off the tea. This is a challenging hole. I mean, honestly, the water, the bunkers, fairways. You have to be You have to be in place off the tea. Like, you cannot be Yeah. You can't be squirly here. You You would be better off if you're not comfortable using a driver. Just get something off the fairway. Yeah, just get in the fairway.
That looks good, Salty. Got to go a little. That looks good. Nice. All right. Nice. We'll take it. Yeah, I like it.
Get up enough. Do you see me hit that ground? Yeah. Yeah. kind of dropkicked it a little bit.
It's all right. You make the putt. It's just so easy when you got us up there. I I don't even feel like I need to hit. That's not the way to play cuz I got to be going. I got to be going for it. Got to be going for it. Always going for it. This is probably one of my favorite holes on the back. It's just beautiful. Yeah, it is pretty.
Well, I led you astray. Nice. Nice putt, though. Still a good stray. Come on, girl. Do something here. I know. I know. I need to. Not a lot to it.
Let's go. Woo. Yeah, baby. Oh, that's what I'm talking about. Okay. So, I was predicting that you were going to do that, but guess what? I did it. We did it. We did it. Great putt. You know what? We needed that. Good team. Good team work. Good team work. Okay. We so needed that. This is all right. We've got one more hole, Salty. Like Meredith just completely sucking and then she We got this. Makes a 15-footer for birdie. This that's what it's all about. I'm trying to listen to what Salty is saying cuz he talks smack about me sometimes. I know he does. I'm trying to I'm trying to like e All right, number 18. This hole once had 44 bunkers on it. Okay, stop it. That's insane. That's the truth. That is the truth. That is insane. 44. And now it's just they m turned a lot of that into just one big bunker.
Let's take a lot of little problems and make it one big problem. Big one. Oh mercy. So this is pretty cool. So they got new signs coming, right? Cuz they just got done with the Rena. But you can see how this hole once had 44 total bunkers on it. Uh you can see all the little all the little dots and now it's just still still some bunkers out there that you can get in trouble in. But um anyway, 44 bunkers, which now it's just this massive sand all through here. Like this entire area is sand you can drive through. The 44 are now one massive bunker down the left side which really I mean is one just massive problem, right? Yeah. You turns 44 problems in 44 maybe 44 problems but my bunker ain't one one big one. I don't know. Maybe I got 44 bunkers that I'm not going to hit in.
It's high. It's going to work.
Kind of a layup bunt driver. I mean, you know, honestly, I'm looking out on this hole. There is bunkers everywhere. Okay. I know they said they had 44. I'm sorry. There's There's still a ton of bunkers out there. Yeah, I felt very unathletic. At least a dozen bunkers. They're everywhere. All right, let's birdie this last hole.
That was actually a really good ball. Don't seem so surprised. That's perfect. My drives today have been a little little squirly. Little squirrely. We'll take that. Let's go. Yes. It's It's always nice to end on a bomb. Let's go.
Oh yeah.
Oh man. Oh my gosh. That's really close, isn't it? I I No, now it's rolled off. I almost hold that. I thought it looked really good. Gosh, that was pretty. I did good salty on that one.
Oh, something. I mean, we did good, you know. We did good. Man, the these greens are so firm. They are very firm. Firm. I mean, firm. Firm. I mean, I I literally hit like was at the pen and it just Yeah. All right, Salty. We can do this. Yeah. We got to We got to finish strong.
Yes. Come on. Yes, he did it. Nice salty. That was awesome. That was awesome. Good way to end. Oh, it's amazing course, right? Yeah. So challenging. We finished really strong. I'll tell you what, the bunkers, the water, these firm greens, and all the Sayulation. It's It's one of my bigger words. It's a big word. Yeah. I'm proud of you. Thank you. Thank you very much. Yeah. Four four under on the front, four under on the back for a total of eight, I think, if my math is correct. We'll take it. Right. Yeah. Um, the hardest golf course in Myrtle Beach, hands down. Yeah.
