West Course at Myrtle Beach National Known as a “Purist” Experience

As part of the trio of courses at Myrtle Beach National, the West course remains a highly sought after round for both locals and guests. With each of the three courses maintaining their own unique appeal, the West course is known as a “purist” experience with not a house in sight for all eighteen holes. Like King’s North and Southcreek, tall, established pines are a signature element from tee-to-green with wayward tee shots likely finding a lie amongst fallen pine straw. The front-nine is routed to the interior of the course with many holes running parallel to one another and minimal water in play. The par-three eighth offers a classic postcard look with this lake more of a visual distraction than actually in play. Accuracy and short game acumen are of greater importance than distance here on the West course with all par-fives measuring under 500 yards and moderate length par fours. With long shadows…a calming stillness…and the promise of morning dew to quickly burn off, golfers will find these early mornings a worthwhile experience. Over the back-nine, water features are more common though not directly in play for most holes…until the finishing par-three eighteenth. Depending on the tees played, this is arguably the most difficult hole with a forced carry from the back championship tees measuring 220 yards with the clubhouse serving as the backdrop. With Arnold Palmer’s legacy ever present at Myrtle Beach National, golfers of all abilities find the trio of courses a pleasure to play again and again. Come see how the West course is part of this Grand Strand tradition at Myrtle Beach National!
