Three Things You Need to Know About the “New” Aberdeen Country Club

After more than five, long months Aberdeen Country Club reopened. The 27-hole facility was closed due to flooding in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence, but the North Strand favorite has opened its (lush green) fairways in time for the spring season. Here is what you need to know about a course that was under six feet of water (in some spots) in September:

What Hurricane? The downstream flooding from Hurricane Florence swamped Aberdeen, but that was a long time and a lot of hard work ago. Aberdeen reopened on February 23 and the course is superb condition (checkout the embedded photos and video). The fairways, with hardly a divot taken, are great and the greens true. If your group values course conditioning and value, bump Aberdeen up on your playlist.

Did Someone Say Happy Hour? If there was a positive that came from the flood, it was the rebuilding/reimagination of Aberdeen’s clubhouse. What was once a functional but uninspiring building, now requires a post-round visit. One side of the clubhouse has the feel of a sports bar, complete with an open layout, five televisions and plenty of seating (did I mention the outdoor patio?!). Aberdeen is now among the area’s best places to have a post-round meal or drink. The pro shop also has a much warmer feel. When you next play Aberdeen, take time to visit the clubhouse and enjoy an impressive transformation.

People Are Excited: The reopening of Aberdeen has been popular with golfers. The course played more than 200 rounds on the first Monday after its reopening and the momentum has only accelerated. There are two things to glean from that revelation: 1) locals are excited to have the course back open and 2) the speedy return of golfers is confirmation that, yes, the conditioning of Aberdeen is that good. If you are a traveling golfer, both of those things are  good news.

If you make Aberdeen part of your next golf trip, you won’t regret it.Aberdeen Country Club Clubhouse
