From River Hills, take the seven-mile drive to downtown North Myrtle Beach for the 30th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival. Take in your Guinness while you take a load off and watch a spirited parade that starts at 9 a.m. The free festival starts as the parade ends, with three stages of live music and 30,000 Irish friends celebrating the Luck of the Irish.
Myrtlewood Golf Club is in the heart of Myrtle Beach and not far from the city’s St. Patrick’s celebration in The Market Common district. The Palmetto course at Myrtlewood is consistently ranked as one of the top repeat-play courses along the Grand Strand. It has a traditional design that offers gentle sloping fairways with a variety of hazards, bunkers and large, subtle undulating greens.
After a round, you can swing on down to The Market Common and try a range of different beers and enjoy free live music at Irish Fest at Valor Park from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
On the South end, TPC Myrtle Beach is a PGA Tour-caliber course just four miles from the MarshWalk in Murrells Inlet. After you play a round like the professionals, enjoy the Luck of the MarshWalk festival. The MarshWalk is a boardwalk-like area along the saltwater marsh in a fishing village area of the Grand Strand. At the Luck of the MarshWalk celebration starting at 5 p.m., you can collect coins as you “crawl” the MarshWalk restaurants with special prizes at the end.
If you’re not in the area on March 17, you can still enjoy that Irish camaraderie at the Irish pubs dotted around the area. Play a round at Grande Dunes Resort Golf Club and satisfy that worked-up hunger with a plate of corned beef and cabbage at Finn McCools, just down the road. Play replicas of the some of the most well-known holes in the world at World Tour Golf Links and finish the day with some grub at Bumstead’s Pub, not far from the Myrtle Beach boardwalk. Also down the street from TPC Myrtle Beach is O’Keefe’s Irish Pub, where the motto on the wall is “Come as a Stranger, Leave as a Friend.” It’s a laid-back atmosphere with green walls, celebrating the spirit of Ireland year-round.
