Witch Golf Club
Located just off U.S. 544 in Conway, The Witch Golf Club is a short drive from Myrtle Beach and easily accessible from nearly any portion of South Carolina’s Grand Strand.
The course measures in at 6,798 yards from the back tees. It’s not exactly a formidable distance for big hitters, and it becomes even more playable from the whites, which check in just shy of 6,300 yards. As for a signature hole? The Witch boasts three. The 574-yard No. 5 isn’t quite the longest hole on the course; that distinction belongs to the eye-popping 599-yard No. 8. However, you’re going to appreciate every bit of the course’s notoriously wide fairways if you muscle up too much. The par-3 No. 7 is also included in that signature category. Like the other holes on the front nine, it is affected heavily by the natural wetlands that inhabited the area prior to Dan Maples designing and opening the course in 1989. The back nine starts you off right with a 390-yard par 4. However, it crescendos to No. 17, the third extraordinary hole on the course. The par-3, 177 yarder is already picturesque, even before considering the wildlife. The course is home to alligators, wild turkeys and plenty more species that call this preserve home.
The Witch Golf Club recently received a rating of 8.0 from reviewers at Myrtle Beach Golf Insider. It received even higher marks for the on-course aspects – tees, fairways and greens – as well as the staff. The 500-acre, house-free track of land has also been honored as a 4.5 stars course and “Most Underrated Course in Myrtle Beach” from Golf Digest and was named a “Must-Play Myrtle Beach Course” and “Best Bargain” by Golf.com and Sports Illustrated. Often overlooked because of its location outside of Myrtle Beach city limits, The Witch has more than made up for it.

We palyed on the 18th. The staff was great especially with all that is going on at this time. The course was in great condition except for a few tee boxes. Greens were really good.
David
Love the course. ruff very deep. If not in the fairway course plays very difficult
Daniel
Great , had a good time
Dave
The Witch seems tired. The layout and design are good. The course condition was average or below compared to others in the area, but the greens rolled true. More signage is needed on the cart paths. More drinking water is needed out on the course. The course still has potential, but there are too many other very good courses on the strand that stand out in positive ways. The Witch does not.
Anthony
Nice layout. Greens in pretty good shape but many tees had sparse grass. Challenging but fair course. Would have been nice to have checkered flags where water came into play.
Anna
Enjoyed the course. Greens were rough but overall good playing.
Gerry
Great course for the money but the greens were not very good
Brian
June 2018, greens were ok. Must have punched them in the last week or so. Great fairways, and everything like that. Will be back next year
Michael
Good fairways and tees.
Scott
this course was a little uneventful for me. great course, was looking for more uniqueness
Scott
great course, great layout, very unique, snakes, gators, and turkeys
Joseph
All around nice experience, loved the course layout. course conditions were a little rough, greens were a little sparse in spots
James
good layout
Louise
Greens are not in good condition. New grass for the winter. Same thing with some tees...Course needs some love....
Bryan
Staff were great. Course was in great shape overall. One or two wet holes. Wonderful day to play. Alligators sunning themselves was most interesting.
Golfer
Course is over seeded well. Greens are in good shape. I find that through the years of playing this course that the front nine is always very wet. Driving range is a little far from the club house and you can't take carts there. For a par 71 course, I wish they had a set of tees that was set to around 6000 yards. Too many of the Green (Senior) tees are set with the ladies tees. This was on 8 of 13 holes that were not par 3's. Finally, cart paths are in serious need of repair. It's a rough ride about the course.
Philip
Starters were excellent. Some damage to course from hurricane. Food in Grill was awful!
Michael
We were not told only 9 holes were open and course in pretty rough shape since the hurricane.
Ron
Day got started poorly as the person in charge added a group in front of us on the 10th tee (our starting hole) When I asked why, I was told it wouldn't slow us down. I protested this and we were moved to tee number one. We played behind a group of women for the first few holes and they let us through. When we got around to the backside, there were 3 groups on ten tee. They then rerouted us to start on hole 13 and we finished our round on hole 12. The course was fine, but not up to my expectations from playing it previously. I will look for other options on my frequent visits to the MB area.
Paul
Some of the tees showed the stress of summer heat but course overall in excellent shape. Very quiet as no houses, hi ways through much of the course, just you and nature with a good mix of hole designs and shot requirements. Will definitely return.
Richard
Outstanding.
Francois
Excellent.
Brian
The greens were rolling great! It wasn't our first time playing here and it definitely won't be the last. You won't be disappointed. Any handicap golfer would be challenged. The views and wildlife are an added benefit.
Lee
Very nice course, but was really tough that day.
John
this was the 4th course we played on this trip really enjoyed the course was in great shape
John
This is a must play course when you visit the area. Kudos to the turf crew as they keep this one in immaculate shape (tee boxes, fairways and greens). I played a few courses last week and this is by far the best one!
Douglas
Beautiful course. Great condition. Watch out for the gators.
Barry
Nice and Green.
Ted
Course is in outstanding shape, fairways & greens are perfect. Cart paths need some work. Staff was very friendly & accommodating. Saw 6 gators on the course. 2 of them were very rather LARGE. Must play.
Robert
Liked the layout and scenery. Very pretty course. Wildlife wasn't bad either.
Richard
When we got to the course, we were told the front nine was closed because of flooding. We played the back twice, enjoyed it. Loved the course layout, and the staff did a great job since only nine holes were open. They made sure are pace of play was good and had us play through a group when we made the turn, so there was no back up on the turn. I would definitely go back here.
Stephen
Staff were very friendly. Course is a hidden gem! Beautiful layout! Everything was well maintained. First time playing the course and will definitely return as often as I can.
Larry
Course was very wet due to recent rains. Not much you can do about that.
John
Absolutely love the course layout. Very challenging and unique. Greens were good, but a little on the slow side. The only thing I was not impressed by was some of the tee boxes were almost down to just dirt. Other than that I really enjoyed the course. The staff was courteous, and helpful. No other place like it for the front 9. South Carolina swamp land at its best with a golf course running through it!
Ted
Unique layout and some very challenging holes. Some of the tees and greens exposed to the sun were rough, but overall very good shape.
Craig
Fairways and greens were in very good shape. The tee boxes on a couple holes were in bad shape with little grass, seems they should take out some trees to let in the sun shine. Anyway, I have always liked the layout and again the greens were nice.
Jon
We had a group of 12 playing 2 rounds on Saturday, when we got there I overheard the pro shop attendant tell the other employee how pissed off he was about the way the sister course Wizard was talking about the Witches course. I didn't know what to think until we got out there and they were right, the course was supposed to be the best of the 3 courses (Man-o-War, Witch and Wizard) but as we found out the hard way it was by far the worst and of all the courses I have played over the years it was the bottom of the list!! Will never play there again!!
David
Friendly staff. Nice pace of play. Greens were a little sparse.
Bryan
Greens in very bad shape.... Green fees to high for the greens to be in bad shape.....
Alan
Was looking forward to playing the Witch, was very extremely disappointed. The greens were not playable. They were totally baked. But after speaking with an employee they said they reseeded the greens but when you're putting on sand it's really not enjoyable. They should have notified us about the playing conditions of the greens. It's not worth paying full price. A discount would have been nice. Snack bar charged 6 dollars for a ham and cheese sandwich that felt like it was 3 days old. After the round was over we spoke with the clubhouse employee about the playing conditions they responded with an OK. Was planning on doing replay; save your money.
Rick
Sand traps and cart paths need improving.
Timothy
This is a feel good course because it plays easy. I enjoy this course after playing some of the tougher courses in Myrtle. There are few trees in play and the water can be avoided. The greens were a little furry but still playable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I will return when my game needs a pick me up.
Wille
Had no tee time but worked us in, on Sunday afternoon. Great layout, greens need more coverage with winter rye. Worth the greens fee! Only complaint, a live cat was laying in the pro shop and my girlfriend is allergic to cats. Could not return to the clubhouse the rest of the day.
Angelo
Good.
Jeffrey
Great course. We were rained out on Sunday but the staff rescheduled us for the next day. Conditions on the course were very wet and soupy. Will be back to play the course and hope for better weather. I really enjoyed the complimentary 2 hotdogs and 2 beers.
Garren
Greens were punched and lots of sand. The fairways were in awesome condition. The employees were really nice.
Daniel
Very good especially for the season
Joe
Superb playing conditions. Fairways & Greens were impeccable. Very slow play speed though, no ranger. 18 holes took little over 6 hours, got stuck behind an elderly foursome.
Normand
Fairways and greens where in very good condition for the time of the year. Unfortunately short game was off a bit.We were a bit surprise to see how many alligators and wild turkeys there was.Overall will definitely come back for another round.Thank's for the great hospitality and the great golf course.
Brad
1st time i have played this course and the greens where not as good but everything else was great
George
I hate to complain, but when we arrived we were told that the front 9 was flooded and we had options. We could play the back 9 twice or switch to one of the other courses. We thought about it and decided to stay put. That was a mistake. The greens hardly had any grass on them. They were way too sandy and in very poor condition. Most of the tee boxes were in also bad shape. I was so excited to play at Myrtle Beach as my brother has been in Afganistan for the past 3 years. We met in Myrtle Beach and wanted to play there because he hadnt played any golf in 3 years. We did enjoy our time together but both of us were very dissapointed with the condition of the course. I would of loved to have the option to know that half of the course was shut down ahead of us arriving at the course, we would have gone somewhere else.
Barbara
The course was not in good shape at all. Fairways were only nice thing about course. Employees were great but cours was not.
Alan
Very women friendly.our wives ALL loved it...the lunch package was FIRST rate and the course was very challenging
Astor
Too much of a swamp for me. Would not schedule the course in the future.
Don
We Had A Wonderful Time. The Weather was Great. The Course Was in Good Shape. The Staff took Good Care of Us. Thank You For The Hospitality. Don & Eileen Raft
Bobby
Fairness
Timothy
We played on 1/21/13. I love this course layout and the staff is friendly. The greens were not in great shape, I have to rate them low. This is one a gem as far as having a variety of holes and hazards. I especially love the front nine where there are no houses in sight, just the golf course and ponds and gators. We play it every year and will return.
Mukesh
Beautiful course with water features. Only issue - did not get my confirmation email about my booking in time. Received the email 10 hours after the tee time.
Brian
Played it 3 years in a row - last time in March 2011. Four groups backed up on one tee on back nine and not a marshall or a ball-washer to be found. Off our play list for 2013.
Tom
Fantastic experience.
Jean
Except for one green, the course was in good condition.
Matt
Excellent course. Would play it again in a heartbeat. Pros: no houses, friendly staff, nice layout, WILDLIFE, course flows from one hole to the next. Cons: bunkers in poor shape, cart paths in need of work, it's in Conway and is a drive from the beach.
Brad
Pro shop merchandise had a ridiculous markup. Liked the included lunch, and course layout is favorite down here. Always a must play!
Joe
The greens were punched, which was very disappointing. Avoid the woods on the front 9 ... those balls are goners. Definitely want to come back when the greens are smooth.
Kenny
Greens are very fast. Had quite a few bad spots. Pin positions were brutal.
Roberta
See you next year!
Roger
Played on 3/7/12 with friends in from Canada, course was in fair condition, play was slow (6 hrs), the course overbooked, I left my phone number to see if anyone would call to explain the mistake. No call,it was all about the $$$, will never play this course again. There are too many courses in the area to go back to one that has disrespect to golfers of all levels.
Tom
Played this favorite on 3/5. Course was fine, despite heavy weekend rain. CPO not necessary, nor was the 5 1/2 hours to finish. We're done here.
Timothy
We played on 2/21/12. A very nice layout if you can ignore a couple holes near the highway. The greens were consistent and excellent. The staff was helpful and friendly. It's one of my favorites. If you have a good tee shot the holes become easy. We saw 2 gators on the course and one was 7 to 8 feet long. I will return because the scenery is stunning.
Kathy
I loved the course layout; the only hole I did not like were the ones by the road. The staff was awesome.
Robert
Scenic natural layout. The course could be marked (distances) a little better. Witch was priced higher than some other courses we played that were in better condition (e.g., Arrowhead, Legends-Parkland, West Course at MBN).
William
It's one of my (and my wife's) favorite courses. We like the layout and the fairness of the course.
H.P.
Shot 76. Loved it.
Richard
The scenery made the round of golf a truly unique experience!
Glenn
Outstanding course. Will certainly play again. Scenic and wild, but playable. Staff was great. Free lunch was a bonus. Course was in fantastic shape.
Mark
I played this on my vacation to Myrtle Beach on a recommendation from someone I know. I was very disappointed in the shape of the tee boxes and greens. The tee boxes were beat up and had a lot of bare spots on them. The greens were very slow and not cut. The par 3's were very blah and uneventful. There were some holes I really did like but nothing to get me to come back here on future trips. Very disappointing after getting the recommendation and told how good the course was. I've played a lot better.
John
The course was in great shape except for the tee boxes, which didn't detract from the round at all. Overall the pace of play was a little slow ... had to wait on most holes even with a 7:45 a.m. tee time but still played in 4.5 hours. Would recommend this course.
David
(Would like to have known prior to play about the) condition of all greens, (and if there were) any bathrooms on the course.
Dan
Enjoyed the course, greens were very nice and the layout very enjoyable. Pace of play was fast and service was good.
Peter
The Witch was a nice surprise as the course was in great shape for this time of the year. We enjoyed it very much and the people were very nice - we will be back soon.
Bob
It was a pleasant experience playing without all the homes scattered about the course. Grill personnel were friendly and courteous.
Joe
Nice golf course, unlike some in the area, The Witch is very green. Not a big fan of the Bermuda greens (not Witch's greens, any Bermuda greens) but they are smooth with very few pitch marks. The course has real nice hole variation and with the exception of hole 12 you feel like you're the only people on the golf course. I do think they need to work on the tee boxes, some were a little rough. The fairways were in great shape, lush and green. Didn't eat or drink at the grill, but they did have a beverage cart that was around often. Looking forward to playing again.
Jason
Had a good time, very friendly and helpful course attendants/staff. A lot of bugs, though we should have known to expect that given the time of year and location.
Bryan
I have been a big fan of the Witch for some time. I played it on my first visit 15 years ago and have played every year since. I played the course in mid March it was in PERFECT shape. The Witch brings you on a journey through the woods, with lots of wooden bridges, gators and wildlife. The layout is simply amazing and the course is challenging but fair for all levels of play. You will not play another course like this anywhere else on earth. Enjoy the Witch.
Dan
The layout and course condition was a pleasant surprise. The course has a nice mystique.
Gavin
We have played this course every year for the past 12 years. This year the course was in the best condition we have seen it. Food needs improvement.
Al
First time played, and definitely not the last. Have been golfing in March for over 15 years, and this course was in the best shape of any we have played at this time of year in area. Good mix of holes and excellent layout. All members of group agreed that we would play again next year. Staff was very friendly, and received a free lunch at the turn.
Kevin
Very picturesque!
Timothy
We played this on 1/29/11 and thought it was a spectacular-looking course and in good shape. The holes are different and vary between easy and difficult. The only thing that wasn't good was the fact that they have closed down the middle tees which I would normally play. A few times I was at the front tees but most often at the back tees which made it too long for me. I enjoyed the course very much and would recommend it to everyone.
Eddie
Played 12/19/10 with 1 p.m. tee time. Nice overall course. Need a straight game as it is cut through a forest. Slice or hook your tee shot and goodbye ball. We lost over a dozen balls (2 players). As it rained the night before, again the bunkers were somewhat hard. Rest of course drained well. First-time players need to know course layout to enjoy it, so talk to the staff and go over scorecard map.
Jim
Very good.
Bill
Good layout but bemuda greens made putting a difficult chore. The bunkers were so hard, I lost many strokes when my sand wedge just bounced into the ball. The course name should start with a B.
Jason
Very disappointed in the current conditioning of the course. Especially the greens. When greens are at this state, notices should be given for the benefit of the golfers and the reputation of the course management. Design-wise, somewhat of a overrated description. Very natural surrounding is appreciated. Staff - well, all I can say is what staff? Pro shop was not welcoming at all.
Trent
The greens were faster than I am used to. Awesome course overall.
Woody
The Witch is our favorite course in Myrtle Beach. It is a challenging but fair course that offers diversity and plenty of scenery (i.e. wildlife). The staff was first-class in service delivery.
Jeff
Did not know juniors could have played at a reduced rate. We had 2 high school players in our group.
Nicholas
One of the best courses in Myrtle Beach.
Colin
I have new respect for alligators now. Nice layout with all the bridges through the wetlands.
Stephen
I love this course, it is more like the type we play back here in Wisconsin.
Jim
The only problem we had was slow play. Foursome in front was playing 2 or 3 balls each per hole. Marshall should have seen that and talked to them.
Gil
It was our second time there, we loved the course but it was very wet and some of the holes were difficult to play. Still love the course.
Tery
Rained and felt course was in great shape considering conditions. Witch is our favorite course at MB.
Ben
This is a great course but unfortunately was very wet due to the course being watered constantly due to overseeding. I would love to play it again when dry.
Timothy
Good solid course from start to finish.
Kevin
Service was average. Course condition was below average, bunkers were full of debris and lacking sand, especially on the back 9. Mowers would not move out of the fairway with us on the tee, even after we hit them with our drives. If Myrtle Beach wants to be a golf destination, they have to make it better than this. My golf is better in Mooresville, NC.
Thomas
It was a bit wet from a storm two days earlier that saturated all of the Strand courses. That was a little odd for us, as we have typically found the courses dry and hard with some roll. This is why I say that the fairways were only good. I'm certain the following day they had improved. Very little roll for this round. The tendency was for the ball to plug. This, however, helped the greens hold good shots. This course is very good for us as the ladies' tees are very playable for my wife.
Mike
Enjoyable course. Some narrow fairways made it challenging. The course layout was very nice with good scenery.
Charles
Frankly, we picked this course cause we were told it was really nice and it was not as expensive as the other golf courses that were in the upper end. We did it to budget our package but WOW. Frankly we were really shocked at how great an experience we had. Beautiful golf course. Being on in nature and the surroundings was incredible. We played a lot of the upper end and this one ranked with the best of them. Golf digest was right when they called this the best value or something like that at the beach.
James
Perfect day, good staff, good greens!
David
We had a great time at the Witch. The greens putted true for me today. Made my round even better. Great staff and fun golf course, high or low handicap.
Robert
Really enjoyed the clubhouse and staff. The layout of the course is fantastic! However, the tees and fairways were very wet and sprinklers were still going off. This made for a lot of lift, clean and play.
