Myrtlewood Golf Club:The Heart of Myrtle Beach Golf

Meredith:           We are at the beautiful Myrtlewood Golf Club today, in Central Myrtle Beach, and joining me is Head Golf Professional Ryan Ruddy. Ryan, thanks for having us out today.

Ryan:                     Thanks for having me.

Meredith:           You know, I love Myrtlewood Golf Club because you can come out here, you can play golf all day long because you have two courses. You have PineHills and Palmetto course.

Ryan:                     Yeah.

Meredith:           Tell us a little bit about those courses.

Ryan:                     Okay. We’ll start off with PineHills. PineHills is a fun golf course, established in 1966, originally designed by Arthur Hills, and it kind of meanders on both sides of the property, which is pretty cool. It’s a strategic golf course. Kind of need to place it off the tee. Gives you some options. Arthur Hills was a big fan of Pete Dye, so he’s kind of designed some of his holes similar to a Pete Dye course, which kind of gives you that rolling hills, some difficult shots to look at off the tee, but there’s really a lot more room out there than you think.

Meredith:           Right.Myrtlwood PineHills

Ryan:                     And it’s a fun golf course, and, like I said, it goes through both sides of the property.

Meredith:           And also, one thing that golfers experience out here is that Intracoastal Waterway, which you don’t often find on a lot of courses here in Myrtle Beach. I tend to love that because, you know, the women love the great views.

Ryan:                     The scenery, yeah.

Meredith:           And you certainly have that here at the course. You have a beautiful clubhouse and a great grill, which is really known for for their food here. I know a lot of people have actually come here to eat, and they’re not even playing golf. And that’s always a good sign.

Ryan:                     That’s a great sign. And plus, we have that deck on the back of the clubhouse, so you can sit out there, take in some drinks, and watch the boats go by on the Intracoastal Waterway, which is kind of unique and pretty sweet.

Meredith:           Yeah, it’s really nice, and I do love the designs of these courses because it does present a challenge, but also, like you said, the course was developed so many years ago, half a century ago, so it’s really cool because we have, almost, that traditional feel, too, and I love that.

Ryan:                     Correct.

Meredith:           ‘Cause those are some of the courses I grew up playing, and so it’s just nice to come out here and have that traditional feel with those challenges.

Ryan:                     Yeah.

Meredith:           Also, tell us a little bit about the practice facility because I know golfers love to come out here and practice as well.

Ryan:                     Yeah. We’ve got a pretty fun practice facility. We have a driving range which is, well, you basically could hit any golf shot out there. You can hit a driver out there; you can work on your short irons. We also have two big putting greens. One is located right next to the driving range we can do chipping and putting on, and also, back by the Waterway we have another putting green where you can putt around, still watch the boats go by, and still work on your bunker game ’cause there is a bunker over there a well, so it’s pretty unique. There’s two different spots. You can practice different lies and different kind of shots which is very rare.

Meredith:           Right. So, so many reasons to come out to Myrtlewood. Also, I want to talk real quickly about the merchandise because every time I walk in the pro shop … I love this pro shop. I mean, it’s beautifully designed, you have so many different brands in there that people can find, and the selection is your latest and coolest stuff, clothes and whatnot.

Ryan:                     That’s correct. We have kind of a unique clubhouse. We have the Adidas Taylormade exclusive golf shop, one of the only golf shops that is exclusive in our company, which is pretty sweet, I think. We have, like you say, the latest and greatest of both hard goods and soft goods that any golfer coming in, if they wanted to get apparel or wanted to get fit for the latest equipment, we can do it right here at Myrtlewood.

Meredith:           Exactly, because when you walk in the pro shop, like you said, it is exclusive. You can’t find this stuff everywhere, and not unless you were to specifically go online and look, and it’s right here in front of you. You get to touch and feel it and try it on.

Ryan:                     Exactly.

Meredith:           I love that. Just so many reasons for golfers to come visit Myrtlewood. I certainly love this course. I love how it’s centrally located. You’re right near the airport, close to Broadway at the Beach, a lot of fun things to do, so it’s definitely a course that should be added on every golfer’s bucket list.

Ryan:                     Without a doubt.

Meredith:           Yeah. So, if somebody wanted to book here at Myrtlewood Golf Club, how can they reach you guys? Do y’all have a website?

Ryan:                     We do. Myrtlewoodgolf.com is our main website where they have all our back history of the golf course as well, but you’re also book any of our rounds, not only here, but our 19 properties. You can go through and book our sister course, Pine Lakes or Grande Dunes, build multi-round packages, a well as two-round packages, which is pretty special.

Meredith:           Absolutely, and what Ryan just suggested is a great idea. You can also go to myrtlebeachgolftrips.com. I like what you said. You can add Myrtlewood, Grande Dunes, and Pine Lakes, kind of put a package together. They can give you a free quick quote on your next golf vacation, and you can find the lowest rates there.

Ryan:                     Correct.

Meredith:           Yeah.

Ryan:                     Best in the Beach.

Meredith:           Okay. So, you need to come out here, and you need to join Ryan and I here at Myrtlewood Golf Club. We would love to have you out and would love for you to experience these beautiful two course here and this facility, so next time you’re in Myrtle Beach, add Myrtlewood Golf Club on your bucket list.
