The Jones Course at Sea Trail, a host to the 2006 U.S. Open Qualifier, has recently undergone renovations to bring a more naturalized look with generously mounded fairways, old oaks and pine trees, and native grasses to line the course. This course has accrued several honors, including Golf Digest’s 4-star rating in its “Places to Play” guide (2006), “Top 100 courses in North Carolina”(2006) and “50 Best Courses in Myrtle Beach” (2005). Golfweek has also honored it with “Best Resort Course of Distinction” (2004) and “Best Course You Can Play” (2005) designations.
This course has water hazards coming into play on 11 of the 18 holes, which makes iron play a must-have. The signature hole is No. 7, a 410-yard par 4, that demands a promising tee shot with trees on both sides, bunker hazards, and a small pond on the right. The approach shot will have to be worked around the trees, while avoiding the bunkers guarding the green and mounds surrounding it. Another well-recognized hole - No. 10, a 400-yard, dogleg right par 4 – is guarded entirely by a freshwater lake, with the added challenge of a green surrounded by bunkers.
